Windows 10 upgrade path and activation issues

I have Start8 on all of my Windows 8.1 computers.

What happens to this with Windows 10 ?

And do you still need it ?

My start8 upgraded just fine, but i removed the local license for it and then did clean install via recovery and refresh.

Sorry, I stand corrected. It seems that the automatic activation can still fail if the Microsoft activation servers become too busy, which I imagine they are after the release, but the clean install should still work.

The clean install will NOT work even if you have done the upgrade.

Note : OEM BIOS product key only.

It's a different story for RETAIL

He is specifically talking about a product key built into his BIOS (OEM key).

Yeah, even on WA capped when Win10 was being preloaded on my pc 2 days ago , the avg download speed was around 30kBps from 7am to 11pm.

The Windows 7 key won't work on Windows 10 as they are different and you need to upgrade via updates.
