So, after about 3 months of waiting, I finally got my replacement RAM.... However, all is not well.... My display drivers were completely screwed (even after installing the latest ones), random lockups, bsod's and the like. Seeing as my OS is on its own partition, I reinstalled (Windows 7 x64).

Now all my stuff is still on my other partition (games, music, movies). The file permissions on the disk are utterly f****d. Every second folder has a different ower (administrators, everyone, SYSTEM, unknown user {30-digit-code-here}. If I take ownership of a folder, the permissions dont propogate to subfolders and files, WTF?!

I dont know whats at the root of this. All I can say is I've been using Arch Linux for the past 3 months and if it wasnt for the games I would ditch Windows right now. Its... disturbing actually.

Does anyone else find the permissions/security dialog of Windows Vista/7 to be the most convoluted unintuitive system ever designed O_o

But yea, if anyone can shed any light on this or please help me sort out these permissions, I'd really appreciate it, sigh

I didn't have any problems with ownership. When you took ownership did you tick 'Replace owner on subcontainers and objects'? Otherwise remove all previous owners and only add your user and the administrators group. Hope this helps.
