That said, I think (to be fair) that my requirement is closer ti Internxt & Blackhole:: the occasional sharing of files that I would prefer remain anonymous

Far too complicated for most of my friends, whose first question would be along the lines of "What is this Tor thingy and is it related the LOTR ?"

I should note that I am of the generation that read LOTR when Peter Jackson was still in nappies

I wasn't sure where to put Theseus so I have created a new category for Speciality OS and Distros - I still think it would clutter up the list if we included general use distros but it's useful to include special use distros like TAILS, QubesOS, Kali etc. I will move exiting entries where applicable.

Technically if intellij community is on the list, visual studio community Edition should be on it as also free until certain conditions are met.

Probably need a tag saying free with limitations for commercial or something.

Thank you. I have reviewed the inclusion of IntelliJ Community.

Source code for IntelliJ Community is published on GitHub and it is licensed under the Apache License v2.0 so i am happy that it is FOSS and should remain on the list. Although there are non-FOSS editions with additional features of IntelliJ, the licensing of the community edition is permissive in its use.

Visual Studio Community on the other hand does not publish source code and has a proprietary license that places restrictions on use such as not licensing it for use in enterprise environments - so it is different and not FOSS.

The 'Free as in Free Speech' versus 'Free as in Free Beer' is one of the drums I like bang. Don't get me wrong, I still like Free Beer

Are you suggesting this for the list or just sharing with us for general interest?- yes, technically it is software with the source published but it's more like content than a general use application so I don't think I'll add it to the list. It is certainly interesting and relevant to this thread though.
