YouTube clamps down on ad-blockers

YouTube has started testing a system that prevents users from watching videos with an ad blocker turned on, Android Police reports.

The publication spotted a post from Reddit user Sazk100 explaining how he was presented with a pop-up window titled "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube" when trying to do so.

Well those ads aren't blocked for me in any case. Only reason I have ABP on is I don't want to turn it off.

YouTube must also come to the table.
Their greed allows creators to have several unskippable ads, ads every two minutes. I have unsubscribed from some creators for their abuse of placing ads all over their videos. Ad blockers will find a way to continue, I hope.

People who are using adblockers on Youtube, are not suddenly going to allow ads or subscribe to Premium if their adblocker is disabled. Some may, I suppose, but I think that the majority will just stop watching Youtube.

In my case, if I visit a site that WON'T let me continue without disabling ABP, I merely close the tab, and move on. Same for paywalls, just close the tab.

That being said, was on YT last night, no anti-ABP nonsense yet.

multiple youtube creators have reported that youtube ignores the settings they set on their video's all the time.

This. And also they get demonitzed for nothing. There is a reason so many creators use patreon and similar functionality.
What we really need is a proper youtube competitor, this way they can't do this. Sadly, the only real player able to do something like this would be pronhub.

Ahh yes, Youtube, the advert network with a couple of videos between ads. Seriously, its gotten terrible lately, 15 minute video with 5 batches of unskippable ads.

My Vanced app suddenly stopped streaming vids, can still watch downloaded videos. Have moved on to YouTube Revanced now.

I just pay for premium, it's 100% worth it for me as the majority of my TV watching is Youtube. The only thing I have to put with now is sponsor segments inside the videos themselves, but I've gotten pretty good at skipping through these now

Ja no I don't think so. Nobody just walks away from literally the sole source of so much content they watch. Will be by far a minority of people who stop watching it.

Yes, you are 100% right, the impact will probably not be big.

But, I have faith in the adblocking app devs, in that they will stay a step ahead of YT & Co.

Do you prefer to download?

I use https://www.4kdownload.com/products/videodownloader-27 then play at 1.5x in VLC. PC fan doesn't come on for that. 1.5x on YT (in Brave Browser) ramps up the fan so for longer videos (like Dan Carlin for eg) I prefer VLC.

TubeMate for Android doesn't have a daily limit...
