Zuma gunning for the constitution

... the point is the ANC will not get 75% of the votes.

Your naïveté would be amusing if this wasn't such a serious discussion.

The ANC doesn't have to physically get 75% of the vote, they merely need to get the "Independent" Electoral Commission to declare that the ANC got 75% of the vote. Once that's done the ANC can amend the Constitution to whatever they desire. Once that is done there will be no going back to the 1994 Constitution, even if the IEC's lies are uncovered.

blu, please answer this: considering that numerous African governments have broken the law to amend their constitutions to suit the ruling parties of their countries - why should it be any different in South Africa?

Wrong. It gives people inalienable rights and freedoms which we never had before and it is the cornerstone of our democracy. Without this document, we are in deep ****.

It's words on paper upheld by the judiciary for now. Only time will tell comrade...

Exactly this.

Bob lost the previous elections to Tvangirai. What did he do? Blankly refused to vacate his seat. So much so that in the name of peace, Mbeki said ok boys, share the power - and the Prime minister role was created. Let me say this again, ZanuPF LOST THE ELECTION.

Look at all these scandals etc. if this were the US / Europe, the honourable ministers would vacate their seats even just based on allegations, regardless of findings. Over here, it's ignored. JZ has all the judges in his pockets, the scorpions are crushed, the security cluster belongs to him, he's lining up everyone.

No matter what happens, unless arms are taken up by civilians, they can do what they want. You really think the ANC is afraid of sanctions if they have China looking out for them?

Think like an African. IF the ANC loses, will they REALLY just peacefully hand over power, or do you not think they will try every trick in the book to retain it - failing which, take to arms to eliminate the opposing forces?

The special majorities at the NA in order to amend the Constitutional provisions for the President's terms in office requires a two thirds (66%) majority, and not the 75% mentioned in here, agree?

Amending is not the same as repealing.

Dream on - Nkandla, e-tolls, and Guptagate will ensure you get nowhere near 2/3.

Problem is come election day the atypical morons would have forgotten and forgiven those "necessary" sins and mark where the X is shown!

Is it just me or is the ANC now having a birthday every month?

I have to agree with House on this one. And judging on what happened with the Potch re-elections - they will use every dirty trick in the book to get it. Vote buying, rigged ballots, contesting every ward they lose, the works. I think its high time we petition the White House to send a electoral observer team.

So they can observe, declare the election a farce (sorry, "not free and fair") and go home again with not a single **** given? Because that's what observers from the entire world did in Zim last time they had an "election".
