Damn, after 13 hours the MR3420 crashed, and after a restart it now sees the K4605 as a "3G Modem" again !!!

So much for my theory about the K4605 driver - this must be a logic fault !

Thinking more and more about a new router - but what ???

Yes, a friend of mine has a K4505 and it is also very unstable in his MR3220. Also at random says "3G Modem". He has not received any fix since informing TP-Link about a month ago. My E1820 on the other hand is stable in the 3220.

guys try this firmware and post results / let us know if its any better.

That firmware rev. is allready available. The 1107** firmware would be great if you could provide though.

Well as TP-Link doesnt seem too interested in adding support for a really popular modem you could give openwrt a shot. I've just read a report from a user on the swedish forum i've mentioned that he got E372 to work with the latest version of openwrt. I would be surprised if K4605 is not supported. It's definitely worth a try. And openwrt and other "open" firmwares has always been praised as having a lot more options etc. so ............

The swedish forum has got a international sub forum and all swedes is fluent in english anyway so ....... I'm just not sure if i'm allowed to post the link here and i cant seem to find the rules anywhere :(

Go for it!

I tried openwrt a few months ago and I had to dig into Linux and command line stuff to get the router going. Maybe things have changed, and maybe it was just me being a stupid noob, but I needed to know a bit of Linux to get the router to connect to the internet to run updates and other installs for Openwrt and I needed to have a backup internet connection then (used ADSL).

I also ran out of flash memory when loading all of the GUI components for OpenWrt.

post the link! You can always apologise later ;-)

Aight, http://www.mobilabredband.se/forum

Well i have no experience with openwrt but i shouldnt be that hard. Worth a try anyway!

I have a huawei E367

Did a search and not finding anything here.
Got it with my 8ta 10gig deal.

What router should i be looking at getting?

I suggest you get either TP-Link MR3420 or Dovado Tiny. If you choose the MR3420 you should flash it with the latest currently available firmware found here for full E367 support. I've used E367 with my MR3420 for a week without hitches. E367 should work fine with Dovado Tiny as well. Tiny has probably got a lot better throughput but is also more expensive.

Shew, the forum has been busy over night. I've asked our techs to let me know if we have the missing firmware, if we do we'll put it on our website and I'll post a download link.

Hey kernel, with the risk of sounding like a drunken parrot :o. Have you managed to find and/or get a hold of the "missing" july (201107**) firmware?

I am running on the 110617 MR3420 firmware now, it is much better than the 110418.

I am using the K4605, it is sometime recognised as a K4605, and sometimes as a "3G Modem". However, it works OK, except that it crashes every two to three hours. It then takes at least 5 minutes to come up, which is a bit of a hassle.

The same firmware is perfectly stable with the E1820, but there is definitely a firmware /driver stability issue. Come on TP-Link, sort it out !

Edit : MmmMagnus, do you know whether the Dovado Tiny supports the K4605, doesn't look like it from the website. Also have there been any reports on your forums about the wifi range of the Tiny, the MR3420 is quite good in that respect, just a pity that they have not got the firmware stable.

One thinks it shouldnt be a problem as its "only" a operator customized E372 but unfortunately i dont know about K4605 as Vodafone is not on the Swedish market, but send them a email or ask in the forum. Samir, the guy in Dovados promotional videos is active in the forums. I know that their previous models has gotten a fair bit of critisism about poor wifi range and i suspect they've adressed that issue in Tiny. And as far as i can tell by looking at the pictures the tiny has a removable antenna which you should be able to replace with a better one if needed.

Edit: Hasn't anyone been able to successfully flash a K4605 back to a E372?

I have tried, but I ran into a password problem from the firmware update wizard - anyone know how to get past that ?

Edit : I now have two K4605 modems, so am happy to experiment with one of them.

Is the dongle you tried to flash locked to Vodafones network? In that case the password problem might be down to the dongle being locked.

shouldn't be locked - illegal in our country

It works with sim cards from other ISP's, so I don't believe that it is locked (it is illegal to lock cellphones/modems in this country). Maybe they somehow lock firmware upgrades if you try to cross-flash from K4605 to E372 ? Don't know, maybe someone can answer that.

Thanks for the quick reply.
MR3420 it is...
I cant seem to find the Dovado Tiny anywhere locally online.
Though it does look like a rather nifty little piece of hardware.
Google Fu is not strong with this one tonight :D

Hey Magnus

I've checked with our techs, they dont seem to know about a 201107xx version, generally they download the latest available versions from the TP-LINK website and then archive these locally on our NAS, they've gone through that archive and dont have it, that's not to say it was never available we may have just missed it, sorry, but we cant help out on this one.

We are currently trying to address both the Firmware issues and modem support with TP-LINK.

PM me the IMEI and I'll calculate the code for you... Sadly, the code on newer modems uses a new algorithm but worth a try...

OK, my K4605 is now operating as an E372. The firmware is much newer than the old Vodafone K4605 firmware, so the modem should be more optimal (that is the problem with the Vodafone modems, they are very slack with firmware updates).

It works fine, I am using it plugged into my notebook at the moment as I type. And I am using it with Cell C, so that works.

Great modem, the only problem is that the TP-Link MR3420 does not have a E372 driver at all, whereas it worked with some crashes with the K4605.

Fortunately I have another K4605 for use with the MR3420.

On the other hand, Dovado (I have one) supports the E372, but not the K4605.

I guess that everything will come together in a month or two.
