3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

Hi Guys

We've received another beta version of the firmware from TP-LINK, please will you test it and let us know if it solves your issues.

Any news? I need to decide on a router to get to use with my E372, and at the moment I'm still unconvinced...
 
The new firmware did not help. The K4605 does not stay connected on the MR3420.

The MikroTik RB751U looks like a good industrial-strength router.
I've used an RB411U previously with good results, it has SMS support and USSD is possible.
It can also supply up to 2.0A on the USB port.

Bought one of these MikroTik RB751U's a few days ago, with the objective of having two simultaneous active inbound connections to my DVR camera system for redundancy purposes.

Learning curve alert!!!

Anyhow, a few late nights, many hours and much surfing later, I now have a PPPoE connection via ADSL (TelkomInternet) and a PPP 3G (Huawei K3765) connection (Vodacom unrestricted APN) both active and simultaneous inbound video viewing via both connections, tested from two mobile phones at the same time.

Each connection registers its own unique DDNS host name and uses scripts to update any changes.

Had to scratch around with port forwarding and "Mangle" rules to mark traffic, so that whatever comes in on a wan port, goes back out of the same wan port.

Also have GPS vehicle tracking (GPRS 1min updates) running with port forwarding to a laptop over the wireless connection, as well as a WDS bridge from a TP-LINK 1043ND sharing a USB drive for clients on my network.

The RB751 also serves as a general AP for other wireless devices.

A bit complicated to get your head around at first, but yeah, as ginggs says, a pretty powerful little router.

I just get the feeling that I have hardly scratched the surface of its capabilities :)

(Dust bunnies accumulating on the old TP-LINK MR3420....:erm: )

I'd like to get a 3G router to use with the 8ta Internet 5 Promo (I've got a CellC data-stick I use at present). Can anybody suggest a good router to provide a wireless signal to my house? I'm not looking for top of the range, just a good, trusty router will do.

Ive been using the TP Link MR3420 (approx R500 via DBG) on the 8ta i5 promo and have no complaints.

Good support and firmware available for most modems.
 
Trendnet is best

If you dont mind spending a bit. Trendnet has one with a built in battery, they just work and work and work. That's the best. Depends on the range size, and it's got battery backup for about 4 hours, so if ure power goes down and you're on a laptop, or ipad, well you will keep smiling while all youre friends are crying. That's probs the best router for 3g I have ever worked with. You can get that from pinnacle or incredible connection. Its about 700-999 depending who you go with.

Alternatively if youre budget is a bit tighter, Dlink has one, but make sure you update it's firmware first. Also from Pinnacle for about R500 or so. It's a 3g and dsl combo router, yet I only use it for 3G. That works quite well. Yet my preference is the Trendnet, but well money speaks hey.

I would skip the Intellinet junk. Really junk actually.

The Netgear has a dsl combo with 3g as well, i think the 2200 model, that's pretty good too.

Where can you get a Dovado Tiny, and for what price ? Does it support the E372 and E367 ?

Edit : I see that it does support those modems !

A really nice one is the Huawei B683, but its not cheap.

28Mbps, 300Mbps speed on wireless lan & the best extra for me....you can send/receive sms with it. The interface is fabulous and very easy to configure router.

My brother bought one from Vodacom & I configured it for him.

Love this router & definitely getting it this year.

I've been looking around for 3G routers to use with my ZTE MF 668, and referred to the OP in this thread. I managed to find a ZTE MF 10 which is available from Cell C (didn't see that listed - supports ZTE modems). This goes for R 1499. http://www.cellc.co.za/internet/page/support/routers/2

There's also the ASUS WL-330N3G. While I haven't used it, I know I've seen some guy on The Verge (gaming program on Vuzu) using one with a ZTE modem on the Cell C network.

I've also managed to find a Netgear MBR624GU for R799. The one store also has a Netgear M3000 but didn't say whether it is compatible with ZTE/Cell C.

Has anyone bought a 3G router out in the northern suburbs (Durbanville, Bellville)? Which brand and model did you get? And the cost? I don't particularly want to drive out to the southern suburbs or anywhere else.

Also, I've been told that if you phone Cell C, they will also give you on request a list of supported routers, which is apparently also on their website, but for the life of me I can't figure out where. Anyone have a link?
