Make no mistake ....MWEB treated me well over a number off years. I would love to be with MWEB for various reasons. I have said this before. I even went as far to consider a business account, at a cost, with no throttling, from MWEB, but reading the complaints has made me apprehensive.
I can't understand the uncapped being soft capped and have NO idea how or when I may be throttled shaped or whatever term makes you happy - or in essence..pay for a service that I can't enjoy.
In this I am not alone ....not by a long stretch ... Longer than 5 guys who I don't know from a bar of soap mind you.
I did have a lengthy discussion with MWEB on this topic via email. My mails were generally met with impunity and a take it or leave it attitude. In other cases the response was ...as you put it ...repetitive. Look at your own responses to the various complaints and tell me I am wrong?
That aside, since getting a second unshaped account, I have realized that other ISPs come with their own baggage, but at least there is some certainty in what to expect. S'pose I should at least thank you for forcing me to go out of my box in terms of ISPs.
I have said this before and will say it again ... If I was told that I am paying for an account where I can consume so many Meg's at a set speed before the parameter changed, I could then make a better choice. Remember, when you throttle a 4 meg account, Telkom still needs to be paid. You have heard this from many others ..... The user tries to apply load after hours to avoid congestion or whatever problems businesses may have,But they are throttled nonetheless. That aside, by your own CEOs admission, more people have more devices requiring more internet bandwidth .... Then you implement throttling and call these users "abusers"?
You have seen this ..as have I, users who are capped with relatively low useage while others remain uncapped despite high useage. There is simply no formula. You have seen this ...as have I ...users who are capped for a short time, others for who knows how long?
There is a debate on these forums ....users trying to comprehend the 30 day rolling window story.
The other thing I just don't get, is that AH almost celebrates useage, while OW, tries to give as much bandwidth to their users as possible. It's a great feeling dealing with these guys, MWEB considers high useage folk "abusers" ....and live with the negative connotation of that! But then blaming these users for all the ills of the network performance ...
The most interesting aspect, is that despite the AUP, which I have addressed in other posts relating to the CPA, the advertising and understanding for the past few years was that MWEB does NOT throttle...and I have provided such evidence of this in other posts, and to MWEB... And then, out of the blue, the picture changed and to this MWEB simply says ... "We have an AUP, and it's up to you to have read and understood it". Throttling is something I only understood recently.
Prior to the throttling event, MWEB and I discussed what the best option would be. I was guided by YOU. When I wanted to go to 2 Meg's, YOU told me it wasn't possible. On my instance, I went this route and it was stable. When I wanted to go up to 4 Meg's MWEB advised me it was not possible. When I took back control of my line and asked Telkom to upgrade to 4megs, the line sync"d perfectly? So, from your side, I got the message that you simply did not want me as a subscriber....so be it. Somewhere in all this, despite trying to meet you half way, you told me I was abusive.
To boot, a day after I was told that 4 meg line was not an option your sales called and offered it to me. When I asked about throttling, they got quite rude and hung up! And for that I should not voice my opinion?
As for that better experience on the network, I must say, upto last month, except for a few Telkom issues, the network with MWEB was always ok for me. I did have problems and we fought it out, but in the main, I was quite satisfied (in my area). I didn't particularly enjoy the email that you sent me intimating I was manipulating things to bypass your shaping ....reason being I have no idea how to.
Like it or not, there will be others like me. I am but one guy. However, if you were to address my concerns, you would be doing so for many other people. I see the complaints as do you. I hear them amongst my peers. If you believe it's only 5 guys ...well then there's that impunity again.
So, here's the thing ... If it's only 5 guys as you say .... I will make your life easier and drop off this blog site. Then there's only 4. Don't know how you are going to deal with Hellopeter or the steady stream on you FB page, but that's not my concern. If the feed back or comments aren't to your liking, ignore them, or simply treat them as you have me.
I shall however offer my opinion if and when asked by others.
Would it not make sense to rather give me (and 4 others as you believe) a reason to make positive comments. I can send you the mails and comments I made two years ago, and they were nothing but complimentary, but I do know that something at MWEB has changed and it's not healthy.
Cheers.
