I have never seen someone defend a product they use like this... MWEB will be proud![]()
MWEB would not be for me in that case, I have gone through 100GB on the 2Mbps ADSL at my off-campus residence![]()
It's very simple, if you download more than the allowed amount, you'll be throttled.[/img]
Then it's not uncapped, is it.
It's most definitely uncapped. A capped account would leave you cut off. A soft cap would leave you at a throttled speed, however soft caps work month to month, and not over a 30 day rolling window. Therefore you don't have the opportunity to fall below a threshold, and return to full speed.
As already evidenced here, MWEB uncapped performs better than capped accounts.

Goebbels, is that you?
It never was from day one. This is what I and many others pointed out.
Mweb never freed the web... they just tied it up in legalese.
The gaming is yes, but I am not sure about updating a game.
I could try Crystal web, but I believe both Web Africa and Crystal Web are both running on IS, so I doubt I would see much difference between the two.
Is Crystal Web eat as much as you can?
We're not IS account resellers. We provision IPC capacity and internet breakout over the IS backbone and over our own controllers and shaping systems. Uncapped for example is entirely different to WebAfrica, with entirely different shaping profiles, and no star rating system. Real-time services are prioritised/unshaped and downloads contend in a dynamic pool of bandwidth. i.e. only downloads are shaped. It's the only truly dynamic shaping system in SA (i.e. no 6.25% set shaping limits and so on).
Thanks for the info.
I just checked out your offerings. I prefer capped accounts as want quality over quantity, and I am not a big downloader. I mainly stream UK channels and use Xbox Live for gaming and game downloads. I also sync at 6 megs and most ISPs only offer 4 to 10 meg uncapped packages, so capped suits me better.
In all honestly, your smallest capped package is way above my needs. Any chance of you offering a smaller package for a lesser price, eg: 80 all /320 night GB for R299 or something?
But ISPs in the first world have AUPs too. It's just as uncapped as Telkom Internet with their even worse throttle limits, Afrihost/Axxess (home), WebAfrica and their/IS's star system, etc. None are truly, literally, uncapped. Is Crystal Web eat as much as you can?
Generally speaking, it would naïve to believe uncapped always meant uncapped eat as much as you can.
And before anyone tells me about Afrihost/Axxess Business, MWEB's bandwidth is much better quality. 24/7.
As mentioned. The figures and throttle limits are there for all to see. If you're a heavy user, heavy downloader, etc. and your usage exceeds MWEB's limits, then move along.
*edit*
What's your line and usage per month, and ISP, Gary?
Then Mweb introduced their AUP and I warned people that it was not going to end well.
And it hasn't.
I currently use a high cap product from WebAfrica.
Yes. No throttling limits on our network.
But if customers are looking to come download TBs of data per month, we will have to relook at this, or implement a shaping mechanism to curb it in peak periods. No hassles in off-peak periods.

That's the interesting thing I found out when rejoining MWEB. It's uncapped, yet the quality of bandwidth is better than all of my capped accounts - Telkom Internet, Afrihost and WebAfrica.
I agree, I mentioned earlier today I found my mweb standard uncapped performed consistently better than other ISP capped accounts with regards to streaming.
And mweb has a 6meg package as well![]()
Is your monthly usage more than 150GB?
