It would appear that Mweb is blocking BitTorrent 100%

People not getting what they were promised, false advertising. It isn't really an uncapped product. No transparency.

* Disclaimer: We also use this account for our office needs as well, since it comes with multiple logins.

It is uncapped. Once the threshold is reached, one's speed is throttled but it's still very usable. And a few days later within the same month, the user will be back to full speed. Not at any stage will any MWEB uncapped subscriber be capped. Therefore in the sense of ISPs, it is uncapped. In the sense of "uncapped" according to the strictest definition in the English language, no it is not eat as much as you can uncapped, and few ISPs are like this. For obvious reasons...

What is your home usage?

You're on a product that gives you 300GB of data between ±07h00 and 00h00, and you're paying R899.

Do you use more than 300GB at home?

MWEB offers 10Mbps Standard uncapped with a 250GB anytime limit, for R599.

They also offer 6Mbps Premium, 600GB any time, for R699.

Or, 10Mbps Premium, 950GB any time, for R999.

And the beauty is that it's the best quality bandwidth, and they're never down.

It is uncapped. Once the threshold is reached...

Let me stop you right there. Uncapped by definition doesn't have a threshold. Only the physical limitations of the line.

The simple fact is that if I had tried to transfer that much bandwidth using Mweb, I would have been labelled and abuser and cut off a long time ago.
We are a family of 5, and we are willing to pay more for better service (as you can see).
But the Mweb product does not lend itself to that.
Which is why we are telling the OP here that Mweb is not what he should be using.

Which is why the English term, and use in practise by ISPs, both significantly differ. Uncapped does not mean the opposite of capped, it does not mean all you can eat.

Here's an analogy. Many residences have fixed water and electricity costs. Just because the cost is fixed, does not mean that the water and electricity is 'uncapped' and free to abuse. The reason the prices are able to be fixed is because the suppliers have calculated the average usage of residents, and can therefore agree on a fixed price while ensuring service and importantly, turning a profit.

I can't help but get the feeling many people think ISPs offering uncapped are charities.

You have the figures. 10Mbps Standard = 250GB, 6Mbps Premium = 600GB, 10Mbps Premium = 950GB.

If these do not suit you, move along. Don't assume that others' usage exceeds these figures, or that just because you're applying the literal meaning of 'uncapped' incorrectly to ISPs, you should advise them to stay away.

Many people prefer quality over quantity. In fact quality is what's most important to most people.

*edit*

You haven't told us your household usage, please do?

Which is exactly what we are telling the OP to do.

Which is exactly why we showed them that it's an isolated issue.

And that MWEB is never down.

And provides the best quality bandwidth.

...And, actually has decent thresholds.

Clearly, the OP is not as 'high usage' as your office/home, even though MWEB has better products with better limits during reasonable hours, for cheaper.

Not being obtuse here at all, rather curious: what methodology are you using to determine the quality of the packets?

My own, particular, eyes. My own sense of detail. Snappiness, consistency, latency. And not just on my home connection, with a couple of ISPs. Many businesses and other homes, too, with all the main ISPs.

Note that it is not only myself stating it.

You keep on saying mweb is never down but they've had outages before affecting thousands of clients.

Secondly their thresholds are not great looking at this http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...orrent-100?p=14803406&viewfull=1#post14803406 If 100GB is the expectation on a 2Mb/s line then I would be long gone.

Your support for them borders on fanatical in all honesty & against the grain of other clients from what I've seen here. Are you a reseller for them or have any business association with them by any chance, just wondering.

That was long (years) ago, and bar the Durban issue about half a year ago.

I've covered all of this before, and so have others, I suggest reading the thread instead of just nitpicking some of *my* replies in order to suit your misbeliefs. You'll find that it was originally *in response* to false claims made by other non subscribers in order to set the record straight. That battle is now over, and your rehashing of it without taking everything in is frustrating.

Their thresholds are perfectly fine and even more relaxed than some other ISPs. If not enough for you, move on and get over it. It does not make them a bad ISP. Quality over quantity. Throttling > shaping.

My support is not fanatical, it is honest and passionate with the goal to help others. Don't forget that there are plenty popping out of the woodwork who agree with me and say the same. Funnily enough, they are actually MWEB subscribers, not ex subscribers from years back who think they are right based on the lies they read on MyBb.

Stupid always sounds right if the numbers are large enough.

There are still tons of MWEB users around here. It's not against the grain at all. Your grain has been set by people who want to download 24/7 who value quantity over quality.

MWEB is never down, zero minor glitches, always consistent quality bandwidth 24/7, better than capped quality bandwidth, has the best support on this forum/social media, as well as fantastic telephone support if needed.

Business association? Did you honestly think that?

You'd be surprised, shocked, at the amount of forumites I've converted who've never been happier.

Maybe it's time I asked for commission!

After all is said and done at the end of the day, it doesn't change the fact that Mweb is one of the worst ISPs in the country when it comes to customer relations. They are one of the most consumer-unfriendly companies in this country, period. They have shown time and again that they're willing to do anything to scam you out of your last buck. Or have we all forgotten their OOB rates for capped users, which is enabled by default and customers are not notified of it beforehand? R200 a gig, wasn't it?

They have a rich history of ****ing the consumer in the ass without the decency of a reacharound and for that alone they are not worth supporting. Grievances with their service delivery and uncapped products are just the cherry on top of the cake.

Couldn't give a toss about the ethical side of things at this time. This is about sheer quality internet.

Seeing as you want to harp on about it, the glaringly rich irony is that you support an even worse ISP, who not only has "poor customer relations" and "****s over the consumer", but also provides the most unusable internet in this country, to most subscribers. Yes, we know you have a special 1Mbps account with your entry level 2Mbps line.

Hell, they don't even have a rep on this forum, or a telephone line where you can speak to a knowledgeable person. You speak to a receptionist who promises a phone call back, but the client receives nothing. It's email or the highway.

You are no better, and in fact, much worse.

The difference between me and you PostmanPot, is that I'm only with OpenWeb because I get good value for money on my account. I don't go around recommending them to people, unlike you. If someone asks for an ISP recommendation, they're the last ISP I recommend.

Although you're welcome to continue trying to poison the well. It says a lot that your best response to pointing out Mweb's terrible ethics issues is trying to discredit me. It doesn't change the fact that Mweb is one of the most unscrupulous companies in SA...

Yip, you do get good value on your very special account. Subscribers to your ISP would think you're extremely lucky.

MWEB offers fantastic value compared to other ISPs as well. I have already shown this to Garyvdh if you'd like to go back and see for yourself.

Of course, it's not 'download the internet' or 'max my line 24/7' value.

You wouldn't recommend them for a good reason. One just has to look at the thread or HelloPeter.

MWEB is different, I can recommend them in confidence - and do - and have not had a sole comeback saying they're disappointed.

You're welcome to recommend them to your heart's content. People recommended them before the 2013 'top users' fiasco too. Anyone on their product should just be aware that they can change their offering at a whim and they will **** you over without a second thought.

I'm not surprised, considering fish can't talk.

Any ISP can change their offering. I can't account for MWEB capped users, wouldn't recommend them for capped bandwidth due to the value prospect.

You didn't know it's an adjective, too? I suggest looking up the term in the dictionary. Pleased to have taught you something else.

sole3

adjective
adjective: sole
1.
one and only.
"my sole aim was to contribute to the national team"
synonyms: only, one (and only), single, solitary, lone, unique, only possible, individual, exclusive, singular
"my sole aim was to contribute to the national team"
belonging or restricted to one person or group of people.
"the health club is for the sole use of our guests"
2.
archaic
(especially of a woman) unmarried.
alone; unaccompanied.

Unless you're talking about an unmarried person or you're calling the people you recommend Mweb to loners, then I think you've got the fish by the tail.

But few ISPs will change their offering on a whim and as drastically as Mweb, basically giving their users a massive middle finger. Mweb is as unscrupulous as they come.

Well, they did change their offering to the benefit of the majority of its users. The uncapped offerings was becoming really slow, until they introduced the thresholds. I know this is not what some people want for uncapped, but uncapped is just that they don't switch you of. Remember the definitions are:

ISPA said:
The Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) defines capped, uncapped, and unlimited as follows:

Capped refers to products which have a predetermined limit imposed, and once a user reaches this limit, connectivity is severed completely – much like pre-paid electricity or cell phone pre-paid airtime bundles.
Uncapped refers to products where predetermined limits may still be relevant, but connectivity is never severed. It does, however, appear to be common practice for service providers to reduce speeds when thresholds are reached.
Unlimited appears to refer to products which have a bare minimum of control measures imposed by service providers. These packages seem to be the most expensive generally speaking, and users tend to be able to surf or download as much as they want with virtually no interference, irrespective of how much data has been used.

Abuse is subjective, but if you are pulling 1TB on a 4Meg line you are either abusing the service or are a business and then there are a specific package for you to take. Among my friends I use the internet the most, I stream shows, youtube and game a lot and I as still within the standard threshold. Even when I reach it I can still do one of those activities without much fuss. So if you see it as they intent you to see it, it is a standard home package it will hold up to most households. Sure the demand will get more when everyone connects their explora and netflix and youtube and game, but then MWEB will have to adjust their package again.

I am sure 95% of the population will be well within the thresholds, it might not look like it on here, but myBB is hardly the a good sample of the general SA internet usage.
