ISP lets ADSL cap grow

Promise...

Very nice product. My only reason I would not go for it might be the promises of the underseas cables, if 1/4th of them turns into a reality, 500-1000mb won't really matter...besides, competition is heating up!

Still, thus far as a recent subscriber, I am very impressed with them so far. This is one little step in the slow progress.

subscribers who have been with the company for more than two years will have a cap of around 2GB after a year, effectively giving them an additional 1GB of usage
IOW, bandwidth costs are projected to be half of what they are now within a year.

o yay a full 3megs! that won't even last a minute but thanks anyway.

Err... ok so that adds up to a maximum of 90MB per month? You might as well just scrap the whole idea.

With easynews if your a member for 1 - 2 years you get a extra 2 gig a month, from 2-3 years, 3 gig and so forth.

Fialkov points out that subscribers who have been with the company for more than two years will have a cap of around 2GB after a year

So its going to cost you an extra R19 a month and IF you've been a member for more than 2 years then after another year your cap will be 2gb?

Sounds like a nice way to keep people 'tied' into cybersmart.

I think given the current constraints in the telecoms market, this is quite an innovative move by Cybersmart

You might as well buy a GB of Axxess prepaid for R70 then. Or am I missing something?

For the first few months of growth yes, but after you reach the 300 MB threshold you will make a profit every month.

some of the responses above are unbelievable
a company does something it doesn't have to which is actually benefitting its customers (essentially giving them something for nothing) and then it is a "silly" scheme and "the price of bandwidth will be half the cost next year" (really?) and they are trying to lock people in (well duh)

get real ppl

I also didnt get it at first. What they mean is if you grow your cap at 3MB per day on a 1GB/pm package, by the end of the month your cap will 1.09GB. By the end of the second month your cap would have increased to 1.18GB, by the third it'll increase to 1.27GB, etc etc

Pretty smart and tempting! I would def do it if I was a cybersmart customer.

Not exactly for nothing. It costs customers R19pm. I'm sure if you plot cash flow from this scheme plus potential customer lock-in (at existing bandwidth rates) against future projections of wholesale bandwidth costs, it is a very smart business move.

But what is so good for Cybersmart is not necessarily so good for their customers.

I would advise anyone going for this to do similar projections. The extra you are adding to your future caps may be worth far less in future.

What happens if you stop paying the R19pm, do you lose the "extra" or does your cap stay static?

It would only be available to you once you have been with them for 2 years...
What a deal...

If you unsubscribe to Grow, you will lose your Cap growth. There is no downgrade fee

So that's not too bad considering how their other innovative products have a steepish downgrade fee.

The thing to remember is this, a few yrs ago people were saying large price drops were imminent too and guess what, it never happen.

That being said, i dunno if it is really worth while.
