nope you do not
if your laptop was replaced just load vista if it gives you problem with activation just phone the call centre and reactivate, tell them the story and bam your back up
just like activating your old xp when u upgrade
u bought a key, its yours
your laptop crashed which means as long as your cd key was not on the other laptop you'll be fine

they normally allow you to install it on 2 computers, but you must own both, so you should be fine.

For one, I would refuse to pay for the XP you are going to remove - you are giving M$ more money for nothing.

laptops come with xp/vista, you cannot buy one without it, suppliers cannot sell laptops without an operating system on them and the preffered operating system is windows as most users know how to use it and dont need a 500 page manual :)
sahara got clever and sold their low end ones with linux which most ppl just formatted and loaded pirate xp

Thanx guys. Would it be a good idea to put Windows Vista as a dual boot or will it cause allot of problems?

well it depends on what programs you use on your laptop
also depends on the spec of your laptop, if its a slow laptop i would advise dual booting as vista might not run as well you would like
i would load up vista work with it for a bit, if you dont like format and load xp
