View Full Version : Who is waiting to get a new graphics card?
I doubt that I am the only one here waiting to get a new gfx card.
Man it is so frustrating to waiting until the new 9600gt to hit the shores and hopeful cause prices to come down (a little) on the others.
Just my rant for the day.

I am waiting for the 9800gtx/gt. I hope hardcocp was right with their road map and it's march/april. I want a new high end card but not a dual one like the 9800gx2.

3870X2 (Dual chip on one card) going to be released end of JAN??? And RV770 will be released Second or Third Quarter this year? Claims 50% performance improvement on RV670. First one exceeds my budget, second one will need to wait for a long long time....

A flipping 8800GT Extreme costs R3125, I can almost buy a flipping XBox for that cash.
So .. yup .. also waiting .. running 6800GT .. waiting .. patiently ... !cry!

*licks lips* - this card is far sexier!
Looks nice... but its the preformance that counts, I'd rather wait for the Nvidia and then see which one gives me a serious B0ner :D

Performance is what matters (and price to some extent) LabAnimal, do you see ATI / AMD being able to pull themselves back from the dwang they find themselves in?

Only time will tell!. I've never been an AMD fan, When i heard that ATI & AMD merged i lost alot of faith in ATI. I've heard some people mention that they think ATI would go backwards because of this merger. - It has to some extent.
Nvidia is leading the pack, so is Intel!. Have to admit those 9800GX2's are damn good looking!

My board isnt SLI compatable, its Crossfire Compatable. Secondly, I coulnt find a board that i liked, and not hot for the 680i SLI Boards, nor the newer 700i SLI as they all do DDR2-800 only...
Lastly, I'm not running my FX cards in SLI, I'm running 3 Monitors.

I would have gone 8800gt or waited for the new one and saved money in the meantime, otherwise if you're happy - congrats on your new buy :)

I think you can get the 512MB version from prophecy.co.za for R2000. The one you got is R1800 at Prophecy.

Screw this waiting game!! Next month the 9600gt launches in conjunction with news about the 9800gt that launches a month after that. When 9800gt launches, there will be news about a minor price drop two months down the line.... Get where I'm going with this?
The painful truth is there will always be something new/improved, lower priced waiting around the corner. For every month you wait, is a month of high quality gaming lost. I regret not buying a 8800gts a year ago.
I bought my 8800Gt last month and I'm enjoying every minute of it. :D

Why are people waiting for the 9600GT? You can buy a HD3850 now for R1600-R1750 and I doubt you will be missing out on much when the 9600GT gets released.
If you want a new highend card (that will be priced way too high at launch) then you're waiting another 2 or 3 months.
The 8800GT will still be the best value for money even then, and you shouldn't be buying the overpriced XFX models. :( It's going for R2450 and R2500 at cafejava and prophecy.

Because the 9600gt beats the hd3850 from the benchmarks we have seen so far and waiting a month isn't a long time period.
On the high end pricing that depends on what your willing to spend. I am willing to pay that price at launch since I will probably keep the high card for a year or more. So for me it will be worth it. Besides I am itching to get a new card but it must be a real upgrade over my 8800gts 640mb which neither the new gts or the 8800gt is since neither beats it by enough for me to warrant an upgrade.

The high end makes sense if you already have a 8800GTS 640MB, anything else would be a waste.
The only real benchmark we have for the 9600GT is from Pconline: http://www.pconline.com.cn/diy/graphics/reviews/0801/1205247_6.html
And these which look quite fake, no testbed etc:
http://www.techpowerup.com/img/08-01-13/9600bench2.jpg
http://www.techpowerup.com/img/08-01-13/9600bench3.jpg
http://www.techpowerup.com/img/08-01-13/9600bench4.jpg
Those scores are mostly (except Lost Planet ) very close to the HD3850. I doubt it will be priced as low as R1600 and the 64 SP units just kills it. I wouldn't be waiting a month or two for that when you can get the 3850 card now.

I changed from 640MiB GTS to new GTS and there's a big difference. For one you can't play Crysis at Max detail on the 640MiB GTS no matter your overclock, but this you can on the new 512MiB GTS. However if you're not even remotely interested in Crysis there's no point to it. GX2 cards tend to suck though. That's how AMD and NVIDIA get rid of gpus they won't be able to sell :P

You then reckon it's worthwhile to get the new gts till the 9800gtx arrives or would that be pointless??
It is good to know that I am not alone in this freaking waiting game.
WHy is it that the 3850 card is not available at most stores. The online stores seem to stock it. Does anyone know where I can buy it in Centurion.

For R2000 you could have gotten the Gecube 512mb OC version from Prophecy, or whoever sells it for that price, which trades blows in the 3870 region.
EDIT: Sorry beating a dead horse again.. ;)

if the 9600 gt doesn't beat the 8800 GTX then I'm not buying it..I will instead start my carreer as a drug dealer and prostitute so I can afford the 9800 GT...
[also: yes, I'm waiting for a new card and my old one (8600 GT ) is 3 months old]
For all of your in Centurion .... keep a look out for me at the intersection of John Vorster and Lenchen (near the KFC) ... I will be standing there this whole weekend holding a signboard reading :
" Help me please.
DX10.0 games to support.
Need new graphics card!
I'd rather beg than steal."

ok so when they launch the 9xxx card the 8800's price will drop?
in the US, yes. ... but the chances of huge price drops here in SA are very unlikely (if history is anything to go by).
We tend to be willing to pay a premium for things that ought to cost less so suppliers tend to charge what the market will bear.
