As David Bullard calls him, the 'ThunderBolt Kid' is at it again.
Alec Erwin, the minister of public enterprises, with political responsibility for Eskom, defended the Eskom executives on Friday during a media briefing in Pretoria.
He said their salaries were market-related, and that executives did not get bonuses last year.

Market related!!! Now listen here, If you want to feed your political appointees 'market related salaries' in a government controlled company that is in effect a monopoly with now counterbalancing forces you would most certainly expect these people that are earning these 'market related salaries' to be subjected to 'market related pressures' would you not?
Things like being accountable for the services or products that they supply. In this case what they don't supply!!!

If these execs were working for private companies in the open market they would be fired for negligence, that is why they receive big salaries, because they have a lot of responsibility resting on their shoulders.

These market related salaries that you are paying these political clowns for not supplying us electricity is ridiculous Mr Erwin. It amounts to an extravagant waste of tax payers money, nothing more.

Moosa, the former minister of environmental affairs and tourism, picked up fees of R1-million. He attended nine board meetings, three of the sustainability committee and one at the invitation of the human resources remuneration and ethics committee, according to the company's 2006/2007 annual report.

Laugh or cry, I don't know. Sustainability committee!!!!! What exactly were they doing during these meetings, discussing how to sustain their bloated salaries? Certainly was not electricity supply, this much is obvious.

The most recent report - which covers the period February 2006 to March 2007 - shows that Thulani Gcabashe, the former chief executive, took home a R6,1-million package (R4,6-million in salary and a R1,5-million bonus), he also received a R689 000 housing loan and 4-million bonus shares. Gcabashe earned R13-million in 2005.

How can anyone stand up and expect the public, who is sitting in darkness, to believe that Thulani's salary is justified.
He is still working for Eskom just btw, in a consulting capacity can you believe it :eek: Can only imagine what consulting fee he has managed to swindle.

Market related, and no bonuses?.. wtf does he think the eskom annual report is, a piece of toilet paper that nobody can read?

I agree. He needs to be replaced together with the whole Eskom top level management. Problem is, who will step in?
