Neotel on track with Fast Internet offering

More of the same :( Anyway the update is good.

I can't wait - I'm excited. Telkom, Vodacom, MTN, Iburst - you'd better watch out.

Good news. Can't wait to see what they will be offering. Things are definitely changing in SA telecoms.
 
Be interesting to see what their pricing's like. My guess is it'll come in under Telkom's but not by that much.
 
I read somewhere on this forum that Neotel won't be charging minimum monthly fees. I don't know how true it is. I think they will. Anyway, I think the basic telephony/internet service will be priced around R 150 p/m (1 or 2 Gb usage) if you compare it to the DSL384 from Telkom which currently costs R 310 for 1Gb and almost R400 for 2GB. that's a huge saving.

I've spoken to a few people at Telkom, and the view from within the company is that they're likely to scrap the analogue line rental completely (saving us R110 per month).
 
Here's a question, does Telkom need ICASA's approval to drop prices? If they do we may have to wait a while for price drop from Telkom

It is, not saying its a good situation, just being realistic. Neotel will try to maximise their profit and they'll do that by coming in just below Telkom and offering better service.
 
Telkom would need permission to drop prices, best time to catch them out is before and then after August

More smokescreens and promises of great things to come :rolleyes:
Its really annoying to say the least.
Now they've got to fine tune the billing model - cos Lord knows they can't be messing that up - maximising profits and all (lets hope the converse is true and that the fine tuning will actually be for the sake of not screwing up clients' billing and reducing the amounts of inbound calls for complaints, etc)

Tis true - even the "Saviour" (hopefully our Saviour) of for SA telecomms has shareholders - and they've been sitting back for the last few years and watching their money fight against the DoC and Icasa and when the time comes to ride on our backs - they're gonna wanna hump us good. ;)

But then again - lets hope the converse of that is also true and that they'll be a BFG and take care of us and make their money based on sound business principles - that of a business that actually cares about its clients and deliver a service with integrity and bandwidth at world market prices ;) :p
 
Its in our best interest if they come just below Telkom regarding price. The price cutting that will follow will force both of them to be proactive in improving services and lowering prices to win clients. Highflyer, I think they are trying to get more customers to join their pilot to get a better understanding of the limitation of their product. Chances are they will continue with the pilot till the last minute when they launch the consumer offerings.

Thats like Pepsi coming in 20c cheaper than Coke - I don't even look at Pepsi - haven't tasted it in years.

If Neotel came in just below - its comparable to them kicking us "Just Below" the stomach and placing the blow firmly to the groin.

We shouldn't have to deal with "Just Below".

Just above, "Just Below" are the moerse profits that Telscum has been running at all these years.

"Just Below" would really be a klap in the face of the consumer.
If Neotel are here to do any good - they should come out blazing and show the market what they're capable of.
Anyone with the the right backing could do "Just Below"! :mad:

I seriously doubt i can hook up with Openweb via Neotel nor do i think Neotel will offer any form of uncapped... if this is the case, and until they do - i'm staying where i am :)

Since adsl has been added to the "basket" of services they do. Not sure but don't think they need permission to drop the analogue rental as they are essentially just not charging you for something they don't provide you with. It would also be more inline with their WiMax model.

Both. This was puzzling when I read it on their website but then I got to think about it. How I see it is that they will be constantly adding to their pilot even after they launch as they move to other areas. Could be a good indication that unlike Semtex and iBust they won't simply launch but continue to expand. Also notice the term "external" customers. ;)

What's annoying is that they have been saying since forever they will make pricing available closer to the launch. EXACTLY HOW CLOSE TO THE LAUNCH THEY WANT TO BE? Will it be such a shock to the market? If not then they were simply riding the wave of anticipation.
 
I'm with Shake&Bake on this one. If they don't come in with at least 5GB for R250 and extra at R10/GB it's not worth it and Neotel would have amounted to 5 years of waiting for NOTHING. So we'll see if they are interested in competition or milking.

Btw Pepsi is like R3 cheaper than Coke and tastes better too. :)

Added: uncapped for R300 is what I really want and they can do it.

Remember they said no line rental, and only what you use you pay for.
