The big stories of blackouts have come from Brazil, Cuba, Pakistan, Chile, the Baltic states, Iraq and Uganda, and will include Tajikistan, Rwanda, Zambia and those on the South African grid.
Lol. Good thing we can now join this list of economic powerhouses. They are so well run *sarcasm* At least now we know where we fit in the world...
If some of the guys could solve their problems in two years why is it going to take us 7?
India is offering up to 80% incentives for setting up solar power plants, while Japan wants 30% of the population to be on solar energy within 22 years.
And that is why they have aggressively growing economies. Its called "planning (for the future)"... look it up. R'tards.
Lol. So true. We will put up all these new power stations and we will be fine for another 10 years and then the blackouts will happen again. I don't mind it if we make mistakes but it is the sheer inability to learn from them that causes me to be hopeless about our future. If you can't learn from your mistakes you can't improve...
A clever man learns from his mistakes, a wise man learns from the mistakes of others.
Eventually it just becomes normal which is scary.
I could not have said it better...
I have sort of been standing back and looking at this whole situation and seeing how the reaction of people change day by day - from being mad and wanting to do something constructive about it to going out and buying generators and just accepting their fate...
This country has become a group of people - just accepting what the money and power greedy dictatorship tells them to do and think...
Wow, who would have thought us notorious South Africans could give up so quickly...?
I don't know. There are a lot of angry people out there. I don't think this one is just going to go away.
Though businesses need to carry one, buying a generator is not giving up - its basic survival.
The problem is there is no quick solution. What are we going to do? Pool our money and build our own power station?
Apparently companies tried that. Until Eskom and the government chased them off, and then turned around and complained there were no companies willing enough to go into the power business.
Eskom and the government dug their own grave on that one!
Its so damn simple: Sort out the farked-up BEE coal suppliers.
The Carte Blanche show clearly showed that the problem is (to a certain extent) decreasing supply not increasing demand.
Lol. Sounds like when Pick 'n Pay tried to sell cheap petrol. When will they realise that everything that regulate sucks. Free market economy with a light regulatory environment.
This diagram from Eskom's intranet is for internal use only. It shows the megawatts that Eskom exports at a specific time to South Africa's neighbouring states. This week, while our gold mines were shut down, Eskom sent 761mW to the MOZAL aluminium smelter in Maputo.
At the same time, Swaziland was receiving 476mW, Botswana 103mW, Namibia 126mW and Zimbabwe 51mW.
Added up, this is more than 1 500mW six times the amount that Johannesburg was forced to load shed daily.
