New ADSL product from Web Africa

It was all sounding so nice until:

The DSL Groups service starts at R 650.00 (incl VAT) for 10 GB of bandwidth and it goes up to R 6500.00 for a 100 GB account.

I don't spend that much on internet. :o

web Africa multiple account

mwebbusiness has had that product for over 3 years... :)

How can this be called a new ADSL product? Its just putting old products into a new shopping basket and then hoodwinking us by calling it "new", and charging more for it.

10GB used to be R490pm, now it is R650?????

What WebAfrica should be doing is passing some of the recent wholesale bandwidth reductions onto their increasingly ripped off clients.

This is hardly new product, and it's costing more now too

Wow ok we missed that one :) My bad. Have a look they have a product called Multisite:

For more info on DSL Groups go here:

Pricing is its not aimed at consumers but businesses and at R65/gb for the functionality its is a bargain, especially considering the r+d costs.

More importantly it can work out CHEAPER than that because bandwidth is pooled across the accounts. Effectively allowing you to oversell to your own users.

We also offer a bit more functionality than the MWEB Multisite product, allowing users to topup as well if the company wishes. (co-payments).

...especially considering the r+d costs...

You are kidding...right?

It's packaging what they have in a different way, and just adding a management console to that...not an HIV/AIDS cure. Especially seeing that other companies already offer this similar product.

If you had to pay for a consultant who did the "r+d", then you got jacked.

My 2cents

Standard shaped accounts are still R490, just checked the website.

I'm going to use the 50GB one.
Its more than just a management console its crap loads of intergration and reporting functionality. If its so easy come setup a management system for me that will manage a 50GB account for 4 sites.

Mweb's multi-site is not great and its damn expensive.

Like all ADSL products in this country, a real bargain......

:Chuckle: I stick by what I said though, given what work with from Telkom and we are far from "rolling in it."

R65/gb is also much cheaper than anything else. Mweb's is R900 for a 10GB and R80-R90 /gb. Axxess or no other ISP has this solution from what I can see.

Secondly I must stress this point for business with branches, it can work out much cheaper.

Lets do the maths, you have 4 branches on a R199 3GB package. That's R800p/m for 12GB's. (leaving out line rentals for simplicity)

With DSL Groups you don't pay for the spillage so its rare that all 4 users would use 3GB thus a 10GB could suffice, @R650 p/m saving the company R150.

As the number of users increase, so do the savings. It's also much easier to manage rampant branch spending, since its centralised and easy to spot at a glance if one branch is eating up all the bandwidth (ie employees downloading etc)

But why would we want all our eggs in one basket? I like having separate account from different providers (for my own reasons)

Stupid really, they should rather spend this effort on ways to distinguish between local and international traffic :-)

So I signed up for a 50GB group account.
I have created accounts for the 4 sites ready for roll out tomorrow morning. Its pretty easy.
Each site gets its own username and password and they can log into a management console and check their usage as well as setup sms alerts.
I have the ability to suspend accounts or add more "cap" per account.
I can set whether they are allowed to top up their own accounts or not.

Its like having your own little ISP. Best of all its cheaper than the 50GB high cap account I had with them.

All in all I think its a great product. Now the acid test, I'm rolling out tomorrow so lets hope there no autentification problems. If this works as advertised my life will be so much easier.
