The only positive aspect that I can see is that we are forced to think twice about leaving electrical appliances on unsupervised or unused for long periods of time (and this excludes swimming pool/koi pond pumps)
Another positive aspect is that we are forced to look at ways to lessen our dependance upon eskom power by utilizing solar power and other means.
Given enough time and funds, this means that Eskom will lose a lot of customers who've switched over to alternative means of electricity (which will work out cheaper for those customers in the long run).
And, last, but not least, this means that people will experiment with various ways and means of clean electricity generation, which will lead to cheaper electricity.

We will probably never know.
Any white scientist who discovers some new power "source", will go abroad and sell the idea there, rather than having to hand 25% of his idea to a BEE candidate.

Also I want to know how Eskom is going to fines residence 4 using 2 much electricity?
Agreed TL, this situation is doing a lot to promote sustainable energy.
The only problem, is that all the alternative power sources, are quite a bit more expensive than Eskom power, although Eskom is not too reliable these days. Obviously, the solution you will choose will depend on your wallet size.

You guys have made some good points but the only good thing for me about these power failures is that for once my filing is up-to-date  My bookkeeper will think she's in the wrong office on Monday :D Should be good for a laugh.

Every monopoly should be eliminated.
We have the means, just a matter of who can innovate and initiate.
