Focus ST FTW!!
Sorry could not help it. :D
Great cars, just that their competitors had more time to come with more potent packages. And every Tom, Dick, Harry and Thabo has one, so I would never buy one.
Oh and please don't forget to post pics.

Personally think the R32 is a bit overpriced..
Put a R5000 chip on a GTi and the GTi will eat the R32...

There goes your warranty. And with that phantom clutch problem that seems to plague Golf 5s that is not such a good idea. :D

The chips these days are almost undetectable.. so no chance of the Dealer finding out.. unless they scrutinize the car..
Have to agree with you about the clutch and the engine...does add strain to it...if you plan to keep your car for a long time... its not worth chipping it..

All chips will be picked up... send your car for a service and its pushing out 30% more power Im sure the guy will pick it up.
Use the Revo plugin, stick it in you 12v socket when you need it, take it out when you dont.
Personally think the R32 is a bit overpriced..
Put a R5000 chip on a GTi and the GTi will eat the R32...
Add a similar chip to the R32 - and then?
Its no point comparing a modded car to a stock car.
But, at altitude (jozi) i reckon a stock GTI is fair game for a stock R32.

Brand New Stock R32 - R350,900.00
Brand New GTi with Chip - R259,600.00 + R5000.00 = R264 600.00
So was just comparing the price value of the cars
and thats why concluded that the R32 is overpriced.....:)

But what about torque?
An increase in KW's doesn't mean anything if it's not accompanied by a healthy increase in torque to go with it. Otherwise it's going to take you hours to reach that peak performance...
Shame looks like I have to explain...
ECU Tuning is an authorized distributor of the REVO Technik / REVO chip performance software. REVO's amazing new technology can squeeze an extra 30 to 70 HP out of your stock VW or Audi 1.8T engine, without even adding or changing anything to the car. REVO's tuning software is uploaded via the car's diagnostic port, wich means it is totally invisible and safe to install and use. The program can then be further customized to the driver's needs with one of the SPS devices available.
Ok now how to calculate HP to Kw...
Power (kW) = Power (HP) x 0.7457. Power
Therefore 70HP x 0.7457 = 52.199 kw
147kw + 52.199kw = 199.199
We all know that all cars are different, even standard cars can push more than what they are said to.
We conclude 147kw Gti + Revo chip can get you to 200kw;)

They say nothing of the 2.0T FSI engine. I'm a big fan of REVO software, but even I think that 200kW+ isn't very achievable without changing the turbo itself.

It's JK8, take everything he says with a pinch of bs ;)
Thanks for the advice :D
Lol I know atleast 3 people with Mk5s getting those results.
If you want to compare the 1.8T to the 2.0T we all know the FSI injection system has been VW/Audi success story of late.
I still dont see how you cannot believe it... and you call yourself a fan:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
The results speak for themselves... scurry over to VWclubforum you will see real readings...

I'm sorry that my idea of being a fan involves a bit of criticism (to which I'm open to being proved wrong), and is not the same as yours which probably involves a week long erection ;)
Btw the FSI success story is mainly related to fuel consumption at increased power levels, and not big power gains as such. And you call yourself knowledgeable  It's easy to bs, and I don't acknowledge some dude's word on a forum as proof. I want to see dyno readouts.

I am a fan... always owned and driven VW's...
but me not believing that a MKV GTi will push out 200KW with just a chip..
doesnt make me any less of a VW fan...and i have read those forums...
even the ones from the US and Europe....

I saw that coming lol!:p
SO increased power was just a flook?
RS4 story. A S4 a 4.2 V8 + Turbo is slower than a 4.2 V8 FSI non turbo....
The FSI is just there for the fuel consumption??
FSI is the the way the injectors spray out the fuel before its ignited.
Its sprays it out evenly so it combusts more violently!! Its the based on the same principal as the MP9 injectors just much better.
Results like I said is on www.vwclub.co.za

Changing the turbo? theres alooooot you can do to get over 200 without changing the turbo. Raising the boost does wonders aswell.

Does anyone here have a Revo chip? is it true that you can toggle between stock and performance mode at a flip of a switch? Forgive my ignorance... :)

I don't have one, but if you look at the back of the car magazine they can link it to your speedo cruise if you want
We can't know for sure until we've seen the figures.
They might be selling relatively the same numbers for all we know.
I see more Gtis on the road. No STs. thats enough figures.

Nice ... that sounds like a great option...
chips puts alot of strain on a car from what ive heard....
so would be nice if you can switch them off
when you want to be kind to your car :)

All that says is that the GTI is more common.
Think back to the RXi vs. V-tec thing. The RXi was way more common then, but which car is harder to find now?

Do you drive every single road in the country?
The only we can know which ultimately is selling better is by looking at audited sales figures.

Besides the point.
As much as I'm a VW fan, the GTI is way too common for me to consider. Heck even an FSI with a kit in good taste would draw way more attention than a GTI. And while it won't win many races, I don't care considering that I mostly drive in peak hour traffic.

I have Revo'd my A4TDI -it is not a chip (though I dont know if you get a "chip"). But yeah, it is an optional extra AFAIK. Dont see why you'd want to do that - once you have the extra power, why whould you want to get rid of it again? When they flash your firmware, they make a backup of the old one, so comes service time (and you have a maintenance plan) you can just get them to reload the old firmware(AFAIK , this is free).

I will admit that GTi's are considerably more common up here in jhb... but I remember seeing lots more STs in Durban.
So we may find that national sales figures are relatively even.

Well, never had it Dyno'ed, but, according to their website, it ups the kw from 97kw to 126 and torgue from 285nm to 380nm. All I can say is I am going through tyres like you cant believe. For the 1st week it was crazy. I just kept on spinning. The power delivery was sorta binary . On or off. The onboard comp apprarently adjusts eventually to give you a smoother curve. But -if it means anything, if I buy a new VW/Audi/Seat today with a turbo, I will have it revo'ed tomorrow. Check here for more stats about their product : http://www.revotechnik.com
They are more expensive than the competition. Dunno if it is worth the extra $$$, but, then again, I never had any issues after doing it.

Thanks for the info sleeper, will have a look at their website. And how much did it cost?

Yeah, the torgue is SWEET :) I used "something" motorsport - cant remeber the name now - in Kya sands. They have since closed down (The owner moved to DBN or something) but all clients have been passed on to Performance masters (just check out the "great" site : http://www.performancemasters.co.za/) also in Kya sands. They are the only authorised Revo agents now in Gauteng. I paid R5k if I remeber correctly - was 2 years ago.
Have a chat to the guys - according to the revo site, they can load a trail version, which will un-install itself after 2hrs or something.
Also, have a look here : http://www.audiclubsa.org.za/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl - there are some pretty clued up guys there. I've read that they rate FRC ??? to be very good as well, and I think it is quite a bit cheaper, but I dont think you can switch it off.

Well, with the NCA kicking in last year... you have quite a few options...
You can pay off the car over 72 months if you want to..think they even go up to 80 months... this can lower your monthly repayments... but the downside is that you are in effect paying much more for the car in the long run... Then theres residual.... i'd stay away from this....
Residual can lower your monthly repayments by quite a bit....
but there are risks involved....
Best bet would be to put in a nice deposit and take the car over 54 months or 60 months....
With regard to insurance... shop around... you bound to get a favourable premium... Bear in mind tho... these cars are seen as performance cars...
so you will be very lucky to pay anything less than R1000 ... age dependent of course.. :)

Well initially the DSG box was the issue, everytime i drilled it and it changed gears it would cut out for a moment ( like milliseconds) so there goes the adv of having DSG, then today as I was driving to work all of a sudden it went into limp mode... no boost, nothing!! I had to pull over, switch off the car and switch it back on, then it seemed fine. I took it back to upsolute and the guys were helpful but found no fault , they ran some diagnostics and changed some values but now the car feels stock, so i dunno......... i took it to a dyno run before and after the chip.. slight difference and these values are on the wheels( this was before today)

initially we thought it was the DV that failed. But it is fine now. I took it back and since then havent had any hassles, drives like normal - But thats the problem NORMAL ... feels so stock now. I got GIAC who promised to come see me and tell me if my car has been factory defaulted. I will be so pissed if it has.... But def keen on GIAC
Those gains arent that great, 9kw on the wheels and 28NM.... If you look at what you meant to get from the site (177KW Engine, 350NM) its a let down... But till I know for sure... I will not kick up a fuss (watch this space hehe)

Upsolute Software stands for Upsolute cr@p, I've seen a number of their cars already and wasn't impressed with any of them... they claim such good figures, but they actually suck cause you get those figures for some like 10ms.... LOL
Go for FRC rather, speak to Preggie or Gert.
If your car suffers from heat a bit, a cold air induction kit won't really help, although they help getting more air into the system... what you probably need to do is get an uprated intercooler, helps transfering the heat from the air to the intercooler which releases it to the air...

Yes I have FRC software on my GTi, had to replace the DV soon after I had it installed. I've had it for a good 6 months now without any issues.
The max power a chip will give you is about 25Kw so expecting a GTi to go from 147Kw to 200Kw on a chip alone is NUTS!

I guess if the software increases your boost significantly it might be possible, but I haven't heard of any car achieving those figures with nothing but a chip. FRC stage III should give you those power figures but it's a lot of mods, not just a chip.
The Polo GTI is a different story because it makes 110Kw in standard form and makes 154Kw with a chip. That's because it has a detuned Mk4 132Kw GTI motor.

Nope, there are (almost) significant differences. The 132Kw engine has VVT and other goodies. Also, the 132Kw GTi & the 2003 1.8T (110Kw) share the same engine and have a KO3s turbo instead of the older K03 turbo.
Show me a car that makes an extra 53Kw with a chip and no other mods.

The GTi and some other cars look really nice without a front licence plate..
Ive seen a few on the road. What happens when you get pulled over? Is it legal to have just one licence plate displayed at the back?

No its not legal to have 1 number plate. They will give you a fine unless you can look really shocked and say it must of fallen off officer.

Correct. The 154Kw from the Polo GTI's 1.8T engine comes from software, down pipe and water injection. FRC have a Polo GTI they're working on which should push about 165Kw.
Read here (http://www.vwclub.co.za/vwforum/viewtopic.php?t=54700&start=25). If they change the turbo to the 28RS, power should be about 200Kw

I try not to get THAT involved in car modifying, it just ends up in a waste of money. As long as I have one car faster than a MK5 Gti im fine.
A chip is the furthest ill go modifying the Polo.

Yup. It is for real. Many Forums, including the opel and honda forums, mention this. And i have to say, my car does feel pretty fast, even tho its stock standard.

One guy mentioned, in this thread, that a small article was even published in a local magazine, discussing the difference between AA and BWA engines.

Ye saw that thread heard about this "increase" in power but surely VW will advertise atleast in the specs of the car...
I havent seen anything on paper and doubt VW will be allowed to give incorrect specs on the car.
Also it depends on where the reading is taken, if its 147 at the wheels and 166 at the flywheel then the car is still 147kw.

Well i read somewhere that VW dropped the compression ratio, early 2006, from 10.5 to 10.3 possibly to sell the GTI in countries with lower octane fuels i.e 89 and 93 octane, (USA). If everything else stays the same dropping compression will result in lower power, so VW compensated for this by increasing boost.
Why its not marketed by VW, i dont know.... increase in KW = increase in insurance premiums = decrease in sales perhaps? I'm not sure hey....

Think about it, why would VW advertise the GTI with 169Kw when they have the (slow at altitude) R32 with 184Kw of power? It's obvious that they don't want the GTI stealing R32 sales.

Its actually GTI's built since the 2nd quarter of 2006, not just the 2007 models, that has the extra power..

I'm sorry but vw does lie in order to keep the r32 sales up, and you can't challenge them in court because the car is at least making the claimed power figures... in fact it's making better than claimed figures.
The torque for those gti's are rated at around 300 nm @ 2200 rpm - 5200 rpm...
