Hi,

I'm on the Vodacom topup R135pm and my contract ends now now. I end up spending between R200-R300 on prepaid airtime above the allocated R135 every month.

Now Vodacom have a R275pm top up which I would be interested in, except they have large pay-ins for any decent phone.

So Im interested in the R299pm virgin unlimited sms topup contract, but I am uncertain as to whether it will just be endless issues with virgin. The phones I'm interested in would be the 6110 navigator, N81 (http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=2084&idPhone1=1861) or maybe HTC S710vox, not sure yet, any advice? I know it isn’t per second billing, but my Vodacom topup wasn't either.

What I really want to know is, will I have issues with the following:

1 Network down time
2 Not being able to make/receive calls
3 Smss not coming through / going or taking very long
4 Mmss not coming through / going or taking very long
5 Air time not being issued timeously upon recharging or at the beginning of the month
6 Correct billing
7 Up time on gprs/disconnects
8 Support should anything go wrong both telephonically and should something physically break
9 Porting - how long will it take, and is it guaranteed to work, can I port back again afterwards.
10 A work around to get 3G, does it really work, or is it just when using the phone as a modem (and is it billed at vodacom rates or virgin rates when working around).
11 Can I still sms when I have zero airtime (a guy had issues with this on helloPeter)?
12 Is there a cooling off period where I can cancel the contract at no cost, should things go pair shaped (and port back)?

Vodacom have had their moments, but I have had all round acceptable service by South African standards. Will Virgin be the same, or will it be 2 years of hell?

Thanks for the help,

Dan

We all know the deal sounds great cause of the free phone and sms for life, but take into account that you will have endless problems if you choose virgin. No 3g or hsdpa, downtime more that up time. sms's and mms's not being sent. begging for vrewards. It just aint worth it, stay with vodacom.

Making calls and sending sms should not be a problem

I hear what u saying. I think I'm going to stick with vodacom. The risk is just to great.

And the attitude I got from the staff yesterday, combined with them wanting to see my bank statements for 3 months kind of seeled their fate. Why can't they just be happy with seeing a platinum card like vodacom. They also want me to be with out my number for 7days while they do the porting.

So vodacom 315 business topup it is then.
