A 'prize' date turns out to be fake

It was every woman's nightmare. There she was the dutiful wife off to work in Durban's city centre sitting behind the steering wheel, waiting for the traffic lights to turn green.

All of a sudden she spies a group of men on a nearby verge dressed in tuxedos and bow ties advertising the fact that they have been selected as East Coast Radio's top bachelors - the sexiest and hunkiest in town.

Each one, so the station said on Wednesday, would be a "prize" date for a lucky lady, and would enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner for two.

A little bit of harmless mischief, you might say. The only problem was that number eight in the line up, wasn't a bachelor after all, but a very-much married man.

Not everyone saw the incident, but those who did watched in shock as an irate woman emerged from her car and struck the man repeatedly with her fists, some even saying that she used language that would make a sailor blush.

When the news got out of the man's cavalier behavior, women were up in arms, voicing their disgust to anyone who would listen.

"She should have pulled his underpants off to disgrace him," said one Daily News reader.

"He might not have been a bachelor this morning, but he's certainly going to be one now."

He should be publicly shamed, said another reader, "What a shocking thing to do. Imagine how humiliated his wife felt."

While some thought it might be a "publicity stunt" others reported that the look on the woman's face was genuine.

"She was a woman scorned," said the driver of a purple mini who said that she went to the woman's assistance.

"She was so livid, she couldn't even speak."

Attempts to reach the warring couple were unsuccessful and ECR are saying nothing beyond "we are investigating".
