moonkin tank eat your words shogun

Nice thread...

By and large there is no gear to support that w/o gimping your dps wich would gimp your aggro.

Ultimatly you become one of two things.

a) A tank that can't hold aggro

b)A aggro machine with mediocore usefulness

People will say, 'wow look at him, he can tank in moonkin'. majority will say, 'we'd rather have a proper tank'

Yeah i know but the majority will say wow he did what we said was imposible didnt you see response from most.

The guy did it never the less...
AND HE HAD FUN

I'm curious as to which words Shogun is supposed to be eating? The ones where he said it would be difficult to kill prince with a moonkin tank? Or the ones where he said it was entirely possible with an exceptionally geared group?

I'm confused. :(

Go read his post pls dont make up your own.

Proved my point i am happy thread closed for me.

this post?

I told you how the Prince fight works and why I think you'd struggle.
I even posted how it might be possible.

or this post?

Taunt? Did i mention Taunt?

It's a mitigation issue not a Taunt issue.

In Phase 2 Prince goes crazy hitting for very huge amounts. Typically in the fight your DPS will burn trinkets and cooldowns to try minimise the duration of the Phase.

I suppose a Oomkin could do it with he had incredibly well geared Healers and the DPS was solid enough to end the phase very very quickly.

Unfortunately you won't be able to do something like that until you're past Kara and gearing up in SSC/TK.
In 2.4 with the new badges rewards it might be more viable to do this in Kara/Badge gear but it's not something you can just prance in and do.

*Edit*
After some consideration, I also think you'd need to be exceedingly lucky to do this successfully due to the mitigation issues. i.e Prince can't get a single decent roll and land a Crushing blow.

I'd really like to kno.

I agree with Shogun. I have seen the video of the Boomkin tanking Prince and he was getting insane heals.

No doubt they have good aggro abilities and high armor. We use a Boomkin to tank the adds on Shade of Akama and she still takes quite a bit of damage.

Panzerkin are good for a laugh. But that's about it.

And that reminds me, obviously you can probably use any class to tank say Shade of Aran, as the dude just stands in the middle and throw spells [you can't keep aggro either way] . On top of that tanks [especially bears] aren't exactly good at reducing magic damage, that's why in some cases even mages end up being better tanks against magic/spellcasting bosses....

Anyway, all this boomkin-tanking thing is saying to me is that any class can do stuff they're not really meant to do...there's always someone who's gonna try it and do it. However the amount of energy required to pull it off out-number simply using a class that's meant to do it [in this case , just use a warrior/bear/pally-tank and do it properly] .

Very true but it is orginal something else from the everyday tank.
They have only about half the health a bear has the healers had too be good.

Not the ideal tank but he had people supporting him in his idea and they were successfull :)

Shade of aran = Kara
Shade of Akama (whom Maryjane mentioned) = Black Temple

Exactly. The heroes here arent the boomkin, it's the healers that somehow were able to keep him up. They were probably so overgeared for Karazahn it's not even funny. Taking t5/6 equipped people back to KZ just so they can 'prove' that a boomkin can tank, defeats the purpose. For purposes of progression, a class and spec that is inherently good for tanking will *always* be the only viable choice.

It's like how i've seen a resto shaman at 70 in t6 tank Onyxia. And I've heard of supremely geared warlocks tanking heroics. Even enhance shamans. It can be done, but it's a case of 2 steps forward 3 steps back. The only purpose it serves is to try and grab and hold onto 15minutes of fame, and is the kind of thing people do when they're bored and have nothing else to do.
