Hi Guys

My guild is preparing for its first run into SSC and I see we need res gear for Hydross (specifically the 2 tanks), having never used it before barring the odd item, (arcane on Curator comes to mind untill we outgeared him) and none of us played wow pre BC so havent raided old game. From you experienced guys how much would be minimium given that it seems to gimp other stats quite a lot. We are geared in mostly T4, Badge and ZA gear.

We found that having one tank with 290 Frost resistance and another with 290 Nature resist was sufficient for our healers to hold them up. The two off tanks should have around 150 Nature/Frost resist. These resists should be unbuffed. These numbers are achievable to get if your tanks are both blacksmith's. Our healers are all pushing 1700+ healing. We have yet to defeat Hydross, the technique of 'handing off' between the two tanks in the midst of spawning adds is quite challenging.

Main tanks need around 300 of EITHER frost OR Nature. You'll need 1 guy to be frost, and 1 guy to be nature.
Offtanks for dealing with the spawns need BOTH about 150 to 200 nature AND frost. This is easy neough to do with green gear, as the spawns don't hit for much physical damage.

Scoliosis, how many tanks and locks do you take?

Thanks guys.

290 - 300 is ouch a lot of gear.

I get Breast (60) Helm (50) Legs (60) Ring (35) Neck (30) Glynn (20) = 255 some way to go:eek:

get ur cap for either frost or nature.
Hydross cant crush so not having 490 deff is not a must.
go nuts :) closer to cap, more time to dps him (ie. 5 stacks, then change tanks)

If you have decent locks and/or mages the easiest way to do the encounter is with 6 tank capable guys.

Its best to use 2 prot warriors to main tank him during the frost/nature transfers. They should have 300 resistance unbuffed and you should provide them with nature and frost resistance from either paladins and/or shammies and/or hunters.

If you have 4 offtanks (dps warriors, feral druids, prot pallies whatever) you can assign one to each add. If you can provide the offtanks with the appropriate resist aura they can usual offtank with just 100 unbuffed (175 buffed) resists for both frost and nature.

Since your offtanks are only having to build threat on a single target you can then just have them drag the adds directly on top of hydross and have your locks and mages just aoe the adds down in no time.

Just make sure that you assign each offtank a corner to pick up their add from and that the locks/mages wait for the offtanks to establish control and get the adds in the centre before opening up the aoe.

We use two main tanks, one frost and one nature obviously, the 4 offtanks are usualy our dps warriors /feral druids / tankadins , the key to this fight is watching aggro and controling the change over from nature to frost.

This is how we do it...Our MT drinks a run speed potion and rushes in grabbing hydross, hunters MD MT to help with aggro and the rest of the dps'ers/ healers run in and start dpsing / healing etc. After about the 5th mark of hydross on the tank all dps stops and the MT moves hydross over the imaginary line to change over from nature to frost, at this point the frost MT takes over on hydross and all our offtanks grab their adds and move them in under hydross, aoe'ers aoe and single target dps nukes them down, once all adds are dead we switch to hydross, repeat this process about 4 times and hes dead.

The most important thing in this fight is aggro, you must call out for all dps to stop when you switch him, if someone gets aggro and he crosses that line its a wipe coz he will spawn double adds.

No offense, but what a waste! We used 4 tanks total. 1 Warrior in NR gear, 1 Warrior in FR gear and 2 offtanks.

We downed him 3rd try with 2 pala's as offtanks ;) Bears also work well (since block is useless anyways). You only need 1 tank per 2 adds. Also we didn't have any resistance gear while tanking adds (At the time we were all in Kara gear), only the buffs provided by the raid and the Chrono Flasks.

We are doing it with 3 tanks, two warriors with either 300 nature or frost resitance, and a paladin with about 250 resistance in both to tank all the adds.
As sugestion while it is your first attemt into SSC rather shoot for Lurker instead of hydros, just sneak past hydros clear the platforms and swim to lurker. It is a much easier fight and while you focus on lurker, tidewalker or leo have your tanks gear up to the point where you want them to be and then one shot hydros with the correct gear. This is really a fight where one person can screw up everything!

Yes thanks Werries.

Was wondering about that as an option as gearing for this fight is a bit of a pain certainly starting from scratch anyway. So will attempt to do what you have suggested so we can go there sooner.

Pate Ice armor plans from Blacksmith in Kara and Nature armor plans from vendor in Cenarion refuge. Also, nature and frost resistance glyphs and pala frost aura.

I've seen youtube vid using only 1 pala tank ;) It's possible, but tank needs to be well over geared.

We found having 2 offtanks is still better and safer option for several reasons with some of them being;

1) You don't require lots of resistance on your offtanks
2) Your guild progress does not get hindered if that 1 pala tank could not attend; meaning less tanks to rely on.

The last few times we did SSC, we could not make any attempts on hydross since one of our warriors with NR could not attend. But now we have more than one set (and murphy had it that the NR tank could attend this time).

Some hints from a guild's perspective to make progression easy:

- Farm enough mats for 2 sets of NR and FR gear.
- Don't waste any resistance gear on off-tanks as they'll do fine with pala FrR aura, hunter/shaman NR buff and a flask of chromatic wonder.

Throw a hunter into the NR tank group and force him to use Aspect of the Wild (+70 NR)

Hmm thats what we do with the eagle guy in ZA, works a treat there.

Ah, we get a resto shammy to drop his NR totem, our RL doesnt like gimping the hunters dps with aotw :)

such a nice RL

WTB your raid leader! I am our raid leader and I still jump to the tank groups for these fights and use my nature res aspect, prob because of the easier range controll compared to totems, or just because I like giving myself a challange later on to catch up on dps ;)

Akil'zon isnt a boss you need tons of range on, depending on where hes tanked (in the center with our raid), u can pop totems down accordingly...
If we dont have a shammy in our raid, then i happily pop aotw

or just because I like giving myself a challange later on to catch up on dps ;)

Haha, interesting excuse ;)

Your RL is retarded, since by plonking the resto in the tank group for NR you're denying your healers/casters +101 spelldamage/healing, as well as Manatide, and furthermore denying the resto any shadow priest mana regen, moonkin, paladin conc. aura etc.
ie, gimp the entire raid so that 1 lousy hunter can get a little bit more dps?
One would think that hunters would jump at the chance to provide some kind of assistance to the raid beyond /autoattack /afk.

Wow.. srsly. Epic, super, megafails.
