I doubt they'll do the entire "my nuke is bigger than yours" thing again. But they are ideologically opposites.

But I think the US has reason to be scared. Their economy is screwed and their military is overstretched. China on the other hand is pumping atm.

Two weeks ago the U.S.A shot down a malfunctioning satellite.
Only to show the Chinese that it is not only the Chinese that is able to do this.

"I have something better than you!"

This is what is happening.

It started.

I can understand that the U.S.A is concerned.
America cannot afford to spend more on it's military, as you rightly stated.
The Chinese can.
And they will.

No, it was just a way of weaponizing space. Unless you haven't noticed that is the next step.
 
The impression that I get from them is that only the US is allowed to prosper and protect themselves. As an economy grows it is bound to start spending more as well.

If we take a look at our personal lives - as we start earning more, we spend more on better things - houses, cars, security etc. How is this any different to a country?

It's odd how they don't mention anything about China spending more on it's infrastructure, but they've instead fixated on China's military budget.

Chinese military is very poor. They have no blue water navy capabilities
(the JSDF Navy could take whatever they have out within hours)
and while they have a huge standing army they have no way of getting them anywhere. They do have a sizeable arsenal of nukes though but nowhere near as big as the US or the Russian one.

If anyone should be concerned it's Russia. A Chino-Russian war can develop very quickly over resources. I'm sure it will happen.

Yes it did them a fat lot of good against the Mongols. Ancient firearm use was very limited and quite ineffectual
until the time of the flintlock musket (virtually modern times). The Mongols subdued China, much of Europe and the Middle East.

China needs energy.
The Americans controls most of the worlds oil supply.
Don't you think conflict may arise there?

I agree with you on the chino-russian war.It seems to be more likely.

There are Chinese attempts to venture into Africa economically.

Just remember, China has a lot more borders with countries that have "stan" at the end, IOW, more borders to protect from fundamentalist, and they have been fighting fundamentalists in the Northwest provinces for a long time.

I was just about to say this. If anyone is sweating this announcement its Russia and more specifically the generals and soldiers stationed in Siberia

I don't agree. There have already been wars and skirmishes between
the Chinese and Russians as well as proxy wars (Communist post-US Vietnam backed by the Soviet Union vs Kampuchea under Khmer Rouge backed by China) and history also shows us that empires/countries
which border each other have a greater tendency to mutual hostility.
Russia is the worlds largest country while China the worlds most
populous one. The Russians don't need so much territory
and raw material and the Chinese have been eyeing their
lands for centuries.

War with the USA? As I said, without a blue-water navy the Chinese army is useless, it cannot even take on Taiwan.
It can however invade other adjacent areas, although they won't dare go into Korea - then again they're making $$$ out
of SK.

China is also not that war mongering. They're happy pursing their current status quo, they enjoy making $$$.

If America is worried I am worried. I don't know about you, but I consider myself closer to Americans than Chinese in cultural loyalty.

I think many anti-American's will actually crap themselves if the Chinese or Russians started getting the upper hand in world politics and commercial culture.

Be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it...

True words.

The Chinese have a horrible human rights track record.

I would rather be on America's side than Chinese.
 
I think the Russians should be more concerned.

And I think we may expect a bunch of military advisors visiting some of the African countries soon.
 
America and China will never goto war. They will never get to a 'cold war' stage either. American is addicted to Chinas cheap goods, and America is China's biggest customer. Something like 2/3rds of all Chinese exports goto america.

China's economic boom is mainly due to the US lapping up all their cheaply manufactured items.

For that matter, I dont see any of the 'giants' like europe, russia, china or the US going to war with each other. This isnt 1940. The world has changed drastically. We are so interconnected now, and rely heavily on other nations that full out war is not an option.

Military power just gives you more of a voice, lets you flex some muscle.

BTW, the US will probably be the military superpower for atleast the next 50 years... and im quite happy with them holding all the cards.
