In a move likely to ruffle feathers in certain quarters the ANC Youth League has called for an immediate ban on liquor advertisements.

Ban alcohol advertising - ANCYL

Now, as much as I can understand the reasoning behind this decision, I feel that the ANCYL is completely out of touch with reality. I fear that they have no idea about the economic implications and other issues surrounding this call.

This isn't so much a discussion on the problems regarding alcohol abuse. Rather whether it worries you that these people, in the ANCYL, are expected to be the future leaders of this country.

What happened to the ANCYL? The ANCYL that Nelson Mandela founded?

IMO, the ANCYL with bitch about the flavor of Coke, or the color of the sky, or the shape of clouds.

I like to compare their comments to a fart - annoying to others, yet it quickly fades away and is forgotten.

Yeah - it is advertising that turns the youth into alcoholics and paves the way for them to be future Ministers of Health...

Doesn't the ANCYL control the country ? It seems whatever they say get's realised.
Well, having said that, i don't drink, so that's the smartest thing they've ever said.

It's like what Gheed said in Diablo 2. He said "Warriv's words are like corpse gas. It befouls the air for a moment ... and then it disappears".

When was the last time they said anything worthwhile?

Oh dear...don't let the ANCYL hear you say that. Chances are they find out what Diablo 2 is (worse, who Warriv is) and they you are racist for comparing them to some underworld creature (worse, it's comments).

They'll even ban Diablo 2.

Imagine newspaper headlines read

"ANCYL bans computer game"

lol :D

People who drank liquor were not shown the negative effects of alcohol abuse, said youth league spokesperson Zizi Kodwa.

You dont need to, wait till the morning and feel it first hand Einstein. Don't see how banning the sale of alcohol for a few days of the week is going to do much. Except boost the sales on the other days of the week.

I know the negative effects, usually first hand on Saturday! :p This never seems to stop me.

Not advertising my brand of beer is hardly going to stop me going out on a Friday and having a few.
