Has Vista screwed up my network cards?

Ok for some reason vista machines on my office network will get an IP address, but will not do anything on the network. I can't ping a thing. Then I went and re-installed 3 of the vista machines with XP, and they still do the same thing.

Took another machine that was running XP and working fine, installed vista. Same problem as others, re-installed XP and it also doesn't work. Has vista screwed with some firmware or something like that?

Any ideas?

Have you tried a live Linux distro such as Ubuntu or Knoppix?

What happens if you install a 3rd party NIC? Does it work, or exhibit it the same symptoms?
 
Well try reinstall one of the xp machines with xp, see if that replicates the problem.

But lets rather start from the begining what is the IP address of the vista machines, have you tried static?
 
Tried ubuntu, no connection there either. The IP the machines get is 10.11 etc. In our range, default gateway and DNS servers all perfect.
 
vista wont mess with your network cards
do a clean format reload xp if they not working then they must be broken or your setting your network up badly

sounds to me like something is wrong with your hub or network ports
 
Even though I don't like Vista, its not going to damage your network cards. Were these cards working before you installed Vista?
 
That's really weird - Ubuntu should have picked up something.

But like the others said, check your hub, cards and cables first.
 
It is the strangest thing. 3 PC's (2 laptops 1 desktop) were brand new with vista installed. No connection, downgraded 1 laptop, no connection, reformatted other laptop and desktop completely and installed XP from fresh. No connection.

Any other laptop plugged into the same network cable functions perfectly.
