Graaff Reinette Powerstation burnt down.

I have unconfirmed information that the powerstation at Graaff Reinette burnt down a few minutes ago.

I will try and establish if it is a Escom powerplant.

No other details at this stage.

I don't know anybody there. Can anybody try to make some phone calls there? Just look up the phone book and call somebody, anybody and see if you can get through. I can't use the phone because I can't hear worth a damn.


I looked up Eskom's powerstation map and I can only find distribution lines going through Graaff Reinet; there's a line that comes from the Port Rex peak load station as well, so I don't think that this would have an effect on the overall SA power system at this point.

Graaff Reinet do not have an Eskom power station. (At least not when I was with Eskom and they haven't build new ones since I left many moons ago) I think that you are talking about a sub-station or a transformer station.

In any case - it will not affect the generating capacity of Eskom but will affect all users down stream of the sub-station.

...VanZan as well. Perhaps people due South of Graaff Reinet to the Eastern Cape shoreline would be affected. No mines there.


Did anybody see any report on the alleged Graaff Reinet fire on this evening news? I don't have a TV and don't see any reports on the net.
