View Full Version : Benefitting in the long run

IF Telkom were to upgrade their lines, alter their products and give new setups, then people would go onter ADSL rather than their previous lines, small businesses with 56k would go onto ADSL, but then what about big businesses with Diginet, obviously downgrading to ADSL would be less profit for telkom, but if they have a 200gb cape or so and other smaller businesses went from isdn to ADSL wouldn't everyone benefit from it? Telkom and the user. People at home would go to ADSL, everyone would.

If those Telkom MD's got a kick up the ass maybe something would happen, we need good service before everyone gets adsl, just like the isdn service (crap when installing, but never any downtime or slow speeds)

So in the long run, if everyone jumped onto the idea, Im pretty sure everyone would benbefit? not?

I think the loss to Telkom would be far too great, unless the cost of bandwitdh scaled exponentially. Big companies are paying millions for internet, and with ADSL being so cheap, there is no way for Telkom to recoup their losses unless 100gb cost R50,000 and 200gb cost R200,000 or so. It's a good cheap service, and although far, far more would sign up, how would the MD's at Telkom be able to feed their families with such a loss to them, but a HUGE step forward in telecommunications in South Africa.

Hi

This problem has been highlighted in many articles previously as well. They are making great deals of money from companies needing bandwidth. If they dare to introduce an effective and cheap broadband service like ADSL they stand to lose big. Another monopoly situation…if the had any competition they had no choice, but now they can do whatever they want to produce the highest profit. To the best of my knowledge this is one of the reasons for the legislation concerning VOIP (Voice Over IP).
