3G total or 3 up and 3 down

Another new user, this website is a good idea - thanks to those concerned.

My first query or point of discussion is whether anyone is completely sure how Telkom is operating the 3Gig cap. At one stage there was talk of the cap being a limit of 3Gig uploaded or 3Gig downloaded - the greater of the two. (I get this from the ADSL tracker e-mails up until a week or so back - http://adsl.telkomsa.net/ , and also a e-mail M-Web sent out to its ADSL users a while back)

But now the ADSL tracker service seems to have gone back to saying 3Gig in total is the cap. My use over the last few months shows a pattern of slightly below 3G on both up and downloads (ie about 5.5G in total), and I haven't been booted onto the throttled server recently (the word throttled makes me think).

My concern of course is that they are going to make another arbitrary decision and I am going to be left with my thumb where the sun doesn't shine. Alternatively its another example of Telkom trying to dupe its paying customers, and that they don't want us to know exactly how it works.

Anyone got some more informed opinions?

This is the last daily email I received from telkom re bandwidth usage:

"Just a short report to indicate that you have currently uploaded 246.06Mbytes and downloaded 122.76Mbytes of your monthly 3.00Gbytes allocated volume. Should you reach the 3.00Gbytes cap on the combined total of these, you will be redirected to a throttled international service."

I think it is reasonably clear that this refers to the 3 Gbyte cap being combined up and down.

First I used to receive this (1) message which states that htere are two separate caps for uploads and downloads

Then a few days later I eceived message (2) which states that the caps are combined.
It seems they have changed the conditions of service without notifying us.
The iniquitous bastards!!
As soon as the Sentech service arrives in my area I will desert Telkom.
