Besides the proposed 53% hike from Eskom, will we pay 14% more from 1 April, as it was already on the cards before the new request?
 
As far as I know, yes. And if they do get the 53% increase, it might well be backdated to 1 April. Although I'd love to know how they plan to do that for prepaid users.
 
If they get their 53% increase, I shall start making more serious plans to take my house off the grid entirely, and starting finding ways of doing so cost effectively and marketing such a choice to people. Eskom will lose out on the revenue from my house, and I shall do as much as possible to make sure they lose out on lots more revenue from the residential sector.

Problem is that buying from eishkom is still cheaper. Solar, wind power and diesel generator are WAY more expensive per Watt than what eishkom charges.

If you install solar panels for example you will have to use them for a decade or two before they pay for themselves. In the short term it is just not worth it to me :(
 
Well since I am not going anywhere in the near future, I am prepared to play this game for the long term... and I know many other people who are as well.

I know the other options are more expensive per KWh, but if they're more reliable, and eventually pay themselves off they're good. If they're more environmentally friendly then thats a HUGE bonus in my books.
 
My electricity bill for this month is a shade over 'triple' what it has since the last 2 months?
 
Hearing lots of stories like that now...

On top of the increase, they're just using way inflated usage figures to calculate the bill. very suspect if you ask me.
 
Make sure you take your own readings, if possible. Take a picture if at ALL possible.

We are in for rip offs, that's for sure....
