Dat's up with dat Power Alert site? This one: http://poweralert.co.za/poweralert3/index.php?location=online

It's been really useful for keeping on tabs with the power status in the country, moment-to-moment, but, ever since March 31st, the very-useful power-usage-indicator part -- accessable with the the clicking on the "national trend" link on the home page -- has been totally disabled. WTF? Dat's up wid dat?

I haven't found any "contact" link on the site to contact somebody about this. And if Eskom's "load shedding status" meter shows green all day long today, then that's a cover-up, I'll tell ya right now!

The system is nearly maxed-out from 0700hrs to 2200hrs with the load-shedding-status indicators being solidly in the brown all day long; load-shedding is currently in progress, so there ain't no way that the Eeeksom meter should show green right this minute.

It's nearly 06h30 right now, so there ain't no way that the meter in Eeeksom should show green right now -- it should be in the red, if not brown, at least, by now. Sheesh.

Anybody know anybody at the Power Alert site?

My energy monitor shows brown stage 1.

My energy monitor is available in this thread.

It tells you when the condition changes and shuts your PC down in time.

Download it.

Nice tool.

That's what I thought that it should be at this moment...brown, stage 1. Exactly.

But the link for the "energy monitor"...can't find it. Can you post it, please?

And I just now checked out Eeeeskom site(at 07h00)..still in the "green" stage...MY ARSE! They are covering it up, I'm tell'n ya. This stinks.

Hey they got a forum now....

...but I can't get in because of some screw-up in either the password or the username...don't know which, sheesh.

Now it's 07h30 and I reloaded the Eeeeskom site...still shows "green" in the "load shedding status" indicator. BS, man.

Like Piepalook said, it's a solid brown, stage 1 at this point. I need that dammmmn energy meter.

Go to :'Search forums" on top of the page.Click on it.
When the next page opens, on the left of the screen under key words type in: 'My energy monitor"

Go to the bottom of the page click on:' search now'
On the next page that opens, it's the 5 th item from the top.

The item says:"Free windows desktop application launched to monitor power cuts"

Download that.

According to the poweralert site, the indicator is inactive.
I don't see any kind of explanation on the forum either.
I am using the PowerFox FF extension and my own little webpage script at work, but both are useless without this indicator.

Mine worked the last time at 10 this morning.
Going to remove it if it does not work.

It doesn't really matter what the condition of the national power is. IIRC eskom will be load shedding regardless of the power levels on the Mon/Wed/Fri | Tues/Thurs/Sat schedule for the moment so the Power Alert website is pointless atm.

Yes, we all know about the "pre-emptive" load-shafting. I have this schedule, its just that they don't stick to it. This is why some indication would be nice, and I don't think it's too much to expect.

I wonder if the schedules could be treated as a contract, and one could sue Eskom for breach of contract if they don't stick to them?

Dont you love "pre-emptive"? Makes me so happy. It's weird that they don't stick to the schedule for you - they're usually exactly on for us.

Well maybe you're just "lucky" that way ;).
As as example, I expected load-shafting on Monday at work, (I live and work in two different load-shafting zones), but it didn't occur. Now you might think that it's not so bad *not* getting load-shafted on a week day when you expect the grid to be under pressure. The problem is that you get complacent and then they zap you with load-shafting on a (scheduled) Saturday when there was no pressure on the grid, just to restore your default state of power paranoia.

I'm starting to think that Eksdom won't allow poweralert to continue displaying the indicator, because businesses might sue if they get load-shafted when there is no pressure on the grid.

Dear Eksdom, people only want an authoritative "j00 w1ll b3 l0ad-sh4fted todai fscker!".
It's not too much to ask for seeing as we're paying more for less now.

Hi, Just wondering why your status indicator is inactive - has Eskom's power been cut?? By the way, their home page still shows a green status indicator - 4pm, 1 April - as it did this morning at 7am when your status indicator was brown.

Hi

This is why we made our indicator status inactive. According to our official sources load shedding was active however the Eskom indicator was not reflecting as such. In order to avoid any confusion we disabled our indicator for now.

We are working on the problem as quickly as possible.

PowerC
