A friend of mine works at a company that is in the process of providing ADSL and subsequently VOIP solutions to their clients. To do this they require an inter-connect contract between them and the telecommunications companies.

I have been told numerous requests to Neotel for an inter-connect contract, the last being in December, have yet to receive a reply. This company already has a large subscriber base and Neotel is pretty much ignoring them. Telkom and all the cell companies were more than eager to come on board.

I ask you this: how can this company be expected to be the "alternative" telecommunications company in South Africa if they can't even be bothered to answer requests for business partnerships?

Have you considered that they are a startup company and all the associated things that comes from being one. Also they might not have responded because they first want to get their own house in order before they sart expanding.

I am not saying that they aren't missing out on a golden opportunity but just that you should consider their side of it as well.

The least they could do then is reply stating their intentions. It takes 5 minutes to compose a reply.

Neotel will be no better than telkom. In fact I think they will be even worse.

Dude,,,neotel has'nt even started to walk yet, i'm sure by the time things are rolling downhill for them business to expand will become an option.. you jumping the gun here and getting ur emotions in the way..neotel i'm sure will run very similer to overseas companies if not the same, they know they need to get telkom to cry, and its the only way.............just be patient, but not to patient so that u miss the bus.

Neotel are still the baby they do not have yet a proven record yet in terms of their service levels. In my opinion it is premature to risk the integrity of your company on the back of an untested service provider.

Rahl and wHiTe*LiGhTnInG, I'm with you guys!

Also as stated elsewhere they are still rolling out infrastructure etc, not the time to be setting up partnership. A prospective client would probably moan just as much if they responded and showed an interest and then were unable to deliver within 6 months or a year while they got their house in order.

Guys this negativity is really disappointing. We have all been bemoaning the fact that Telkom has no competition. We get competition. They are frantically (as can be seen by all the posts mentioning Neotel digging up pavements around the country) rolling out infrastructure. Give them a chance and stop writing them off already. This type of attitude must make anyone wanting to become competitive in this country very despondent! Would you be happier if they launched a product before they were happy that it was working 100% and problem free?

EDIT : I also just thought I would add that the subject is a little misleading. Before reading the post my assumption was that you had been in contact with Neotel and they had literally said to you that they are not interested in your business and turned you away. Perhaps this should be changed to be fair on them?

Company asked Telkom for 8Mb line. Telkom, after a few months, let us know that they don't have capacity. Went to Neotel, for the same price, we can get 32Mb and a delivery time of 6/7 weeks from order date. Will let you guys know when we have final installation. I don't have specifics on price, or any other contractual details.

This is why we South Africans are doomed to be living in a third-world pretence of a first-world country.

I cannot believe all the posters jumping to Neotel's defense - give them a chance, ag shame. Bull! They cannot even reply to a legitimate request for business - even to say "we aren't ready yet, but we will let you know when we are".

Sorry, but this complete lack of understanding of potential customers tells me that Neotel is going to be Tillskim II - probably worse.

How long do you think would *YOU* would stay in business if you ignored your (potential) customers?

What a sick joke this lot are.

lol

I think it's fair to say that some people would rather be optimistic about something that hasn't even officially launched yet than shoot it down blindly. Granted, it would've been more prudent of Neotel to respond with a, "We'll see" response rather than not at all, but I guess they have their reasons. Perhaps no one in the "know" received any of the e-mails and it merely found itself lost in the great "inbox" in the sky.

On the other hand, if it's so vital to this ISP to get in contact with Neotel, why not go into their offices and talk with someone in charge, set up an appointment? Surely, worst case scenario, it's a R600 plane ticket away - which is small change for a well-to-do company.

How seriously does this company really wants this. Of the plus minus 7 different methods of communicating they have used one. That one also being the one most likely to be lost or ignored.
Doesn't excuse Neotel for not responding but if you really want it pick up the phone call them and make an appointment.

We wanted to use Neotel for carrying or voice. About 80 stores nationwide. They've not contacted us either. I got the idea that they don't need clients to run a succesful bussiness.

Is this true. Can Neotel provide this?
I mean they are running on telkom backbone, so hows that possible.

Cant see this happening.

See there is your problem. The word "Nationwide".

Neotel is rolling out in a geographically focused areas. Those being Joburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.
They will not approach a client if they can't provide you with service in your area. What you might find is that you name will be in a lead database somehwere awaiting the infrastructure for them to service you.:o
