I have also been following Neotel's Progress as to supplying the residential user with Internet and Telephony services.
Neotel's Pilot services commenced early July, it appears the business service is available for business requirements and appears that residential service has not been implented yet. As quoted on their website:
"Neotel is bringing a variety of voice and data services to individual consumers and SMMEs in South Africa. We are extremely excited by the successes of the consumer pilots which have been underway since July 2007, and are preparing for commercial launch to customers in the metropolitan areas of Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban."
I have called +27 11 585 0000 (Neotel H/O) end of each month end February was told the residential service would be available in early April 2008 (Yes I did verify the date, lol) I called in again this morning (15/04/2008) and was now told Early MAY 2008. I queried the length of time we have to wait with their sales consultant (Name withheld) and was told that at the moment they are launching their service to residents depending on range to their various substations in baby steps. Week by week more residential people will be having the Neotel Residential Telephony and Internet service.
To follow Neotel's latest news and updates have a look at http://www.neotel.co.za/neotel/view/neotel/en/page65 or add to your bookmarks to keep track of when an Official "Soft" Launch is available.
If there is anyone that has the residential service installed to please post and let us know what it costs and the quality of Neotel's service.
As to price, Neotel still maintains 20-30% cheaper than the existing adsl and telephone costs that we have at the moment.
I have also sent email to [email protected] a few times and was at least happy to receive a prompt response each time.
Any feedback on what others are experiencing with either having Neotel's service or still trying to get Neotel's service (Business or Residential) to please post your thoughts and findings to this thread.
Here is to hoping to a better alternative and solution to our current situation and hopefully put us more on an international standard when it comes to consumer usage and costing.
