What the international media says about SA's Xenophobia

Weve being on the BBC, CNN, ABC news.... were on the media across the world. Its weird to be white and not be as hated as Africans from across the border by this wave of [-]racism[/-] xenophobia.

What I don't get it why this is still being called "xenophobic attacks" when it is clearly evolving into full-blown tribal warfare.

"Since Zuma won the ANC presidency, they think they own South Africa. If they meet someone in the street and that person can't answer questions in isiZulu, they insult them and beat them," she says. *

This country has become so shattered and broken, I just don't see how it will ever get back on track...

That is debatable. The violence shown in some farm attacks are crazy! I don't know what it would look like if whites lived in the townships...

I hope it would be different, but would it? Could this escalate to something affecting everybody in the country?

Aren't whites considered by many as foreign as well. Our turn is coming.....

Ag, no worries.
There is so many faction in-fighting and racism amongst blacks, it will be some time before they get to us.

Who is to know what the mob will do next.

This needs to be put down by the government and put down hard and fast, but the ANC is in a quandary here. If they do what is obviously necessary they will lose votes in the upcoming election. So they have to decided how many lives is a vote worth and I think we all know that the answer is a lot.

Watching Carte Blanche last night Alex is more dangerous than Fallujah :o

Worse - by admitting to the problem, they admit they royal fscked up the Zim "thing".

But when has Mbeki ever cared about Zimbabwean citizens?

If they die here at the hands of the mob... or if they die in Zim at the hands of Bob's mob... what difference does it make to him?

It's time to send in the army to these places.

Shoot and kill all these animals.

I feel for these poor guys :(

I saw one Zim guy said that he would rather go back to zim and die of hunger then being killed here in this way........

Did anyone see the photo of the guy that was set a light?:mad:

Burning alive

This is focking sick! :sick::sick::sick:

If the zim guys say its better in zim than here, what does that say of our country?

what are we all still doing here?!

He called on the South Africa government to declare Zimbabweans as refugees and give them proper protection. ``It's a crisis,'' he said.

Wouldn't that be admitting there is a problem in Zimbabwe? How can you give someone refugee status is there "is no crisis"?

What are the army doing? Reminds me of Demolition Man: "We're the police [army] we're not trained for this kind of thing!"

If you are going to use that line of reasoning, then you could also argue that the Shosa, Sotho and Zulu are actually foreigners as well who moved into the area hundreds of years ago. The only real inhabitants of South Africa are the Bushmen. We are all foreigners at some point or another.

Thus Xenophobia is extremely pointless and ludicrous!

The media needs to drop this Xenophobia slant and call it what it is, Mob Violence, Drunkenness, Greed and Tribalism.

And someone said it... the ANC government needs to wake up quickly here and deal with this... curfews and shoot on sight. Or this will spill over quickly into a Rwanda style bloodshed.

Nevermind that giving them refugee status will not help.
The local populace will still see them as a threat re: jobs.
