Any police reservists in this forum?

I'm not a reservist, but after following the stories of the unrest in the country and the treatment of our African brothers and sisters in this country, the thought has crossed my mind to try to do something to help the situation.

I heard some second hand stories at work of how people are being treated in the Cape Town areas - a white colleague's brother is looking after 3 babies of foreigners who are being targetted violently. They can't return to their homes to fetch their life's belongings and their babies are safer without their parents. The police said they can't do anything about it just yet. This is BS!!

So far it's been other areas of SA, but now it's coming closer to home. And the stories I've read so far that the attacks have been only looting and non-violent in CT, are BS too!

The thought of trying to do something (legally) about it has finally settled in, but I'd rather stay at home and look after my wife and kids. :(

I'm feeling quite sad tonight. I try to help others as much as possible. Doesn't feel right to just sit back and watch on the news. Anybody else active in the police or as a reservist? Would it make a difference?
 
If you go into CPT central police station, they have this TV up and it displays this whole like "ad" if you want, for people to join the Police reservists with a contact number.

If you call that number, I promise you, a black lady answers and goes, "hello, eish, thank you for calling..."

I hung up after the 'eish' part.
I called again, same thing happened.

Sorry, I can't work with someone that starts like that! :D

But having said that, I have a policeman friend and when I told him that I wanted to join, he warned me, don't... you can't trust your partners these days.

If you can't trust him, why bother.

Thanks for a helpful post. Yeah, I'm sure you're right, you have to be a team to stay safe.

Just wanted to see if there was anybody who was closer to the situation who could give some info to ease my mind.

gdiza, I know you're a good guy. :) But probably not much we ordinary guys can do. :(

You make it sound like I just want to go out and harm innocent people - that's the furthest from the truth you can get.

Hey, maybe it'll happen to someone close to you. When you see the tears like I have, maybe you can follow your own advice and "shoot at unarmed people or spraying pepper into someone's eyes" :mad:

Look, trust me boet, If I could join them and actually help, trust me, I would.
I would also join the fire department and be a volunteer firefighter.

Why? because any bit I can do to help, i would because that is my spirit... to help!

But joining the police force is pointless, if you can't trust the people you work with, why bother, really.

I'll tell you a story my friend told me.

He went to a break in with his partner at 3am.
He'd only been with this guy for about 2 months as his previous partner quit due to stress and such (which my friend also was showing)

Anyways, they got to the house, my friend told his partner, you goto the back and i'll go in the front.

He got to the front door which was open and he entered (expecting to obviously have the backup at back)

My friend announce that its the police over and over.
He went thru the ENTIRE house and got to the back door and didn't see his partner, he then went back and exited thru the front door.

Where was his partner?

ON THE FSCKING PHONE WITH HIS "STUKKIE" ORGANSING TO HOOK UP IN BOUT 30 MINUTES WHEN THEY DONE "HERE"

DUDE!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad:

There is more to this story, but i'll leave it at that.

After hearing that, I decided to stay away from the police.
 
NSRI (coast guard) are always looking for people, if u want to do volunteer work.

Good enough for Denny Crane.

Yeah, when there were the big fires in CT a few years ago, I was going to join the fire department too. Lucky they were brought under control. :)

I hear what you're saying about the state of the police force. Quite sad.

I have the same spirit as you. :) Can become quite draining though. ;)
 
Don't give up on ways to help your country boet.

As soon as I have my drivers license I'm going to join the volunteer firefighters ;)
