View Full Version : A 720 IS USB problem
I can't transfer files from the camera to the PC using the USB cable. Installed the software and tried advice found on the internet but no luck.
Any idea why?
Getting tired of having to use a card reader instead :(
Does it detect the usb once plugged in?
What error message if any are you getting?
Check to see if the version you are using of the software if any patches or updates have been released as the ones released when packaged are sometimes outdated.

XP doesn't pick it up but the USBDeview program does

This is one thing that annoys me about Canon - why the hell can't they make their cameras show up as USB storage? Even my do-every-thing-their-own-way Sony Cybershot shows up as a USB drive when I plug it in. Under *any* operating system.

Yeah my Olympus was fine as well. Crazy IMO

My A 720 IS shows in explorer as separate drive and I can transfer the photos directly to my HD. On the camera the photos are not identified as jpg files but the moment they are transferred they are jpg's.

What software did you install, was it Activesync?

Under *any* operating system.Use a card reader - at least on a mac you'll be able to have the card show up as a drive (though why you would want to . . ).

I do use a card reader, but that's no excuse for them not to give usb-storage functionality.
I'm worried about the card reader wearing out the memory card though

I suppose with SD it's possible - it's a thing flat surfact that pics up a lot of friction when it's inserted and removed. A bit like mobile phone simcards that go bad, I guess.

Not quite. My card reader has a rather flimsy release mechanism to get the card out
