The Beta Testing phase has been posponed till the 12th of December, when Hopefully the launch of the test will begin. I will be sure to keep all of you informed. I would like all of you with a simple question post something you would like me to do while testing this product, inorder to satisfy you enough to get it. Dont just say please check pings to usa. i want info/programs/servers you want me to link to. File downloads.. i need servers/sites/. pings etc to game servers i know south african servers and that will be tested now if you want any international servers i need you to past them. I'll try to test them in whatever game you specify so long as i can get hold of it.

so please inform me of what you want me to do. I'm not asking you to do my job, i'm asking you to give me the specific questions that with results will beable to give you an imformed decision into whether or not this service suites you.

Thanks

Staind

Hey Staind,

If u get the chance, I'd be interested to see how you go on Anarchy Online. www.anarchyonline.com is their site, you can d/l the game and all patches from there. It's a free 7 day trial so that should be enough time.

Thanks

I was wondering when this would come*cracks knuckles* okay here are some things you can try for me:

1) I see international pings have come up ping sites like gamespot.com and google.com and see what type of pings you get back this should tell us if their using fibre or satellite then you can ping some european sites and see the ping times there post all the ping times and the sites you pinged with the average ms taken.

2) then log on to a game like CS or DOD local first see if the ping remain constant then try a international server and see how it handles I know people are curious about this:)

3) Now about top speed i.e max kb/s I think you should try to d/l Nvidia drives and time the amount taken to get them down then with accurate calculations work out the average kb/s you got and post it:) also would be nice to see what you get on the speed test on this site post it here.

4) do a trace root to the uk then the states and post bot hthat way we can see how their rooting their info as well as how many hops they have in place.

5) try doing more than one thing at a time i.e open web pages while refreshing a server list and d/l a file see how much you have to do to affect the ping to the gaming servers this is important for the guys that want to do 10 things at once.

6) Okay we also want to know how this system works i.e how do you sign up how does it look how long did it take YOU to install, did you have to test the signal strength and did you have to fiddle with the modem's position to get a clear band signal.

7) Tell us if the modem actually has an ethernet connector there seems to be a little confusion on that one I'd hope there is as well as try and root another computer through the network to the modem and see how it handles since allot of us want to do this for when people come for a lan etc :) I hate being offline :)

Okay that is a few I'll think of some more for you late:)

Hi

I dont know if its asking too much but if you have a Digital Camera you can take some shots of the equipment:)

Also provide some screen shots (dumps) of some of the important stuff such as sign off and speed tests

Thankx

Any line would saturate like that and destroy latency, you'd have to have a prioritisation/QoS to avoid that.

Karnaugh is 100% correct; in fact, the more bandwidth you have, the worse problems you'll have with latency when maxing the line out on downloads (with no kind of queueing / shaping implemented). For those of you using Linux, check out http://www.lartc.org/, in particular http://www.lartc.org/wondershaper; should work just as well on MyWireless as on Cable / ADSL ;)

things to check, things I would really want to see

the ping you get on the reason server (warcraft 3)
reason.za.net

and a speed test from telkom(yes telkom)
http://www.telkom.co.za/dsl/speed1.shtml

a list of the hardware would be kewl. I have long range wireless hardware which i have used to connect the internet, surfing and email are pretty fast, downloading was at 7k but was unstable. I was connected to a 64k connection on a concentration ratio 1-8. I could not play warcraft online tho, my ping jumped from 94(good) to 35000(really bad)!

thanx

I would like to see how VNC performs.

Here is what I would like to see, Run a vnc connection between your Sentech connection ( i assume you are testing @ 128K) and a connection from someone's office with a leased line.

What I would also like to do is to ShoutCast a radio 702 stream. I think 702 is so popular I always get dropped. It would be nice connecting to my own stream.

Will be interesting to see if you'll be able to sign on from 2 locations, like at home, and at work from a laptop with a wireless card or something. Ideally i am sure many of us will like to be able to radmin or vnc into our home box, from work, all through our sentech connections.

Ok, I'm not sure if someone has answerd me, but how the hell do u propose connecting from 2 locations when you have a single static IP assigned to your account?

The time has come and i'm sure you all can't wait! :) the count down has begun.

Feel free to keep posting all your tests for me, o um somethings i don't know how to do.. VNC? eish just fill me in on the programs etc.. i know how to do most of requests :)

VNC is a utility that allows for remote management of servers, amongst other things - probably a favourite of the BOFH and those of his ilk - obtainable from http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/download.html
