Hi guys

Some feedback from Hans from Telkom.

Regards,

RPM

Dear TelkomInternet subscriber,

As part of our continuing commitment to our ADSL customers we are implementing a new usage measurement system from the 1 January 2004. No longer will the usage of a session open over midnight at the end of the month be carried over and reflected in the new month.

The new usage measuring system will now reflect usage against the date the session started. This means that the usage will be reflected against the session start date and not on the session closing date. However, this has created a delayed reflection for usage sessions open over midnight. These sessions’ usage will now only be reflected and added to the applicable day in which the session was started, two days later. This means that the entry for day one could display a different value on day three. However, all usage will be accounted for on the applicable day.

We value your continued support and any comments or questions can be posted at [email protected].

Regards,

TelkomInternet

Thanks for the feedback RPM.

I appreciate the fact that they are trying to do something about this problem. But I am sorry to say I'm still far from satisfied. Not sure if I'm the only one, but I've found that the online stats are completely different to the stats I receive via email on a daily basis. It's impossible to keep control if you're running two days behind. Surely Telkom can come up with a more user friendly and up-to-date solution for this problem.

The solution is to just drop the stupid IP accounting all together.

I wonder why Telkom finds it so difficult to run a meassuring system (if they now really have to have one) similar to what SAIX runs, i.e. once you have terminated a session - the usage figure is updated immediately and within 1 minute afterwards one can go look at the updated figure.

I certainly do not like the new system - but maybe one can milk the system for 2 days now before being capped.

I agree with Karnaugh - we should not have a cap looking at how much we pay, and therefore a meassuring system should not be necessary

So it's taken them a year to come up with this simple solution?[:0]
How long will it take to come up with more complex benefits for their customers?[|)] *yawn*

RPM, is the above email you received from Telkom something all subscribers have/will be receiving or is it something specifically for you? Because I certainly have not received it. And don't you think they should have sent this out to inform their clients BEFORE they implemented this new and ever so unprofessional system?

Has anyone else experienced a big difference in the results on the web site and the results in the daily emails? According to the online graph, I've uploaded and downloaded twice as much as the daily emails say. I know for a fact there is no way I've used that much bandwidth.

SAIX == Telkom

Hi VQuest

This post was send to my by Telkom specifically to be published on MyADSL. I am uncertain whether ADSL users were notified about these changes.

Apart from reading about this change here on this forum - to my knowledge Telkom has never informed any of its adsl users directly about this change.

Very poor on Telkom's side.

I will be testing this tonight

I totally agree doekvoet. It is absolutely essential that Telkom informs their clients of any changes that might affect us. If it wasn't for myadsl I would never have known about the change and I would have had to call them to find out what was going on. Which would be a waste of my time and money.
