Is anyone, inside or outside Sentech, in a position to say where the service will be available. Does Sentech know this closely guarded secret themselves? I mailed Sentech, and had NO response from them. Maybe the damned ADSL is still something to consider.

I'm in Pretoria North , will Sentech be available in the area?
I'm interested in knowing whether the following areas will be covered:
- Rosebank/Parktown North/Parkhurst/Greenside (i.e. just north of Jhb Central)
- Halfway House/Vorna Valley (i.e. Midrand South)
- Noordwyk/Olifantsfontein (i.e. Midrand North)
- Centurion (both sides of the N1)
Hi guys
I have contacted the Sentech Internet Access & Broadband Wireless managers regarding the proposed rollout and potential regions. I am not certain whether this information will be made available to MyADSL, but I will let you know as soon as I receive a reply. In the mean time our more connected members might be able to shed some light on the specific regions in question.

Does anyone know if...:
1)The service would be offered to residents in the Waterkloof / Waterkloofheights areas in Pretoria?
2)Also would it be possible to test run before you sign up for 24months?
3)Could one buy the wireless modem seperatly and not have its price included in the monthly offering?

Thanks

I'm hoping that they support Pretoria North, for me and Xyber sake. If not then at lease Hatfield, cause then I'll have to take MyWireless and connect it to my work PC and download from there. Please PTA North!!

Hi Gentlemen
I am in Pretoria, Silverton, (near to Botanical Gardens).
I contacted the mail address provided by the Sentech website. I posted in Afrikaans. I don't hope that is the reason for not replying.
Thanks for the replies so far on my (somewhat desperate and angry) post.
Cheers

Since Sentech is in charge of providing commercial and non commercial radio and TV signals to radio and TV stations in Gauteng I believe they will be using the Groenkloof broadcast tower to facilitate the wireless broadband service in Pretoria. In JHB they will most likely use the Brixton tower (or whatever tower they use to cover JHB).
I don't see why they wont because it basically belongs to them.
Thus, if you have line of sight (of one of the towers) you should be able to get the wireless service in your area, provided you are within the recommended distance of the hardware they will use.
So, get on your roof and have a look. If you live in Pretoria North, I think they will have to repeat the signal on the Magaliesberg. That might take time...
Cheers

on the 19th of January a map will be released on the website for all to see if they covered. Obviously they not going to make you sign the contract and then you see that you got no coverage. the testers are linked to a limited number of towers and some testers havent even got signal.. so please just wait for the coverage map... it might even be launched a day or 2 before the 19th
Hi folks
I received feedback from Sentech. This is nothing new, but simply confirms what our more informed friends said.

Sentech feedback:
"Our coverage areas are currently changing on a daily basis with the implementation of new high sites and the tweaking of current infrastructure. It is impossible for us to give definitive answers right now as the network is still in flux due to ongoing improvements. However a web site and call centre will be available as of the 19th January where potential customers would be able to supply their physical address and obtain information on coverage and high sites in their area. The current roll out schedule has not changed and should be Gauteng (Johannesburg-Midrand-Pretoria) on 19th Jan 2004, Durban 19 Feb 2004 and Cape Town 19 March 2004. For more detailed coverage information customers could either check out the coverage section of the Sentech web site or contact the call centre after the 19th."

hell, short drive from cresta, I offered to pick it up from their offices and the nice lady laughed and said "you can't do that"

Sentech could not have had better roll out marketing than MyADSL provided.
Free of charge :-)
