I've got a 420, a 430 and a 580, and I use the 430 the most, especially for macro. There is a 2nd hand 580 for sale on the ODP classifieds for a very reasonable price.

I think I need to look at ODP - I'm in desperate need of an affordable studio lighting kit.

I think I need to look at ODP - I'm in desperate need of an affordable studio lighting kit.The lighting is too flat from ring flash (the owner of the ODP site always says - "you want to take pics of people's teeth?" :D). I prefer the twin flashes (http://www.outdoorphotoshop.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=2357A003AA), but R14k is a bit ludicrous. I can use the 580 to trigger a 420/430 - just have to make a bracket.

Yeah, I have a 430EX and I am happy with it ... using a Gary Fong Lightsphere (http://store.garyfonginc.com/licl.html) also makes a huge difference!
I also use the Gary Fong Puffer for the pop-up on the 20D

Thanx all. There is a huge diff in price between the 580 and 430 (sure there is a reason), but the 580 is almost too much for my needs.
I was hoping to get hold of a good used 430 for 1300-1500 somewhere.

For that kinda money you can almost get a brand new Sigma 530 ST...
