There seems to be a coverage option on the Sentech web.

Is anyone have any luck in finding a location that can receive a signal. I’ve checked around Roodepoort and no availability at all. Perhaps the site is not up to date with the current coverage.

Nada.

I've clicked all over Centurion, Pretoria and Midrand and they all say "None, not scheduled". I think they're still updating their data. Must be. I cannot believe that they'd kick off with *suck* poor coverage.

Santon area works. Only junk thing is that my signal is "unlikely" but the person next door to me gets "qualified".

My home address (Bryanston, Randburg area) is "qualified", my work address is "unlikely" (Dunkeld / Saxonwold area, near the jhb zoo). The URL for the "Zone Locator" is http://66.18.65.122/zonelocator/welcome.htm.

Roodepoort and Krugersdorp are possibly covered by Heldekruin.

So what does "Cumul 102.8169014084507" mean, which is the response I get when checking on coverage? ProAsm, you there?

OK, sorry - *slap* my own face - I've now read the rest of the page, which says Status - "Operational", Signal - "Good"...

I can't get the maps to work at all. I can't zoom in, zoom out, pan, or check coverage. The only thing works for me is the address finder jobbie.

Do I need to set any browser options, or have a specific pug-in?, Please help

Same here, no coverage anywhere in Pretoria. [:(] I am looking for coverage info in the Eastern Suburbs (Faerie Glen etc.)

I've used Mozilla and Firebird (Mozilla Lite) on Linux, and IE6 on XP - all work. You must have Java and the browser must handle Javascript, as far as I can see. GL...

For R2D2 - I've just checked Faerie Glen, and am getting for Status - "None, not scheduled" and Signal - "Your enquiry will be used to assist in the planning of future coverage for your area". The facility does work for Pretoria - I checked Arcadia and Villeria areas last night which worked, though I can't remember the outcome...

You don't need Java, but you will need JavaScript support. Also, there's a notice in the HTML about "This works best in standards-compliants browsers" with a link to w3.org, but it's wrapped in an HTML comment [8D].

Ok, I checked pretoria(newlands) area, and couldnt find anything (*sob*), and after phoning them, it sounds like they wont support that area at this moment.

Then I read the AUP. Sentech said there will not be any capping of use. And after talking to them on the phone, they confirmed there will be capping of use, well actually they said, it's just a different method than capping. It seems it's not an actual limit like telkom, but rather at theire own discretion, be it less, or more. To me that says capping. The reason I want a broadband connection... is to download like hell. Why else would I get a high speed internet connection?
Well, I geuss every company in the world has this, as on slashdot, someone reported his company contacting him for excesive use, is this the same kind of policy we are looking at here? What is 'excessive use' ?
Always has to be a catch... or am I wrong.

'
Excess Utilization of Network Resources. The excessive use or abuse of Sentech’s network resources by o*ne subscriber may have a negative impact o*n all other subscribers. Accordingly, you may not use the Service or take any action that will result in excessive consumption or utilization of the system or network resources, or which may weaken network performance, as determined in Sentech’s sole discretion. treecksta, I think they're getting confused with the word "cap", yes, i reckon the "at our own discretion" sucks ass, but as ProAsm stated, they don't have the time, nor the means to track such excessive usage in any case.

The cap I think they referred to is, if you have the 128kb package, you won't get more than that, like bursts of up to 3mbits (which is possible), they'll "cap" you at 128k

Am I right? of course I am, I'm never wrong! [8D]

I think it's unfair anyway for me to rely on the first person answering the phone to know it 100%. It's just, Ive found out, companies tend to ... put strange things in strange holes when they can. If sentech sudelny have a problem of too little money, they could use that policy at theire own discrecion, to make more money.

I love the idea of sentech, and well, I'm still crying about the coverage thing. But when signing a contract of 24 months, I want protection for me, not just them. 'vague' policy's like that, are scary. But... I doubt they would abuse it, and if they did, there are things that can stop them from that, so I geuss I'm just being paranoid as always.

So let me get ready for dreaming tonight, for I will dream that I hear trucks and loud noise from the mountain above, and that sentech is putting up a tower close by, and turning it on tomorrow ;) hehe

Blah blah rant rant ... And it's cloudy weather too [:(]
