eMails from forum

Hi folks

As you might know a somewhat uncomfortable situation arose with Gooku sending out emails via the forum and including the name of one of our moderators in some of the emails. Although many members do not find this action particularly disturbing, others do not see it is acceptable. I feel that the announcements forum could have been used to publish this email, and that it is not acceptable that the names of other members/moderators are used in public emails without clearing it with them first. We would therefore like to state that neither MyADSL nor any of its moderators are endorsing this action.

We welcome any legal consumer action that might improve telecommunication & data services in South Africa, but just feel that members should take care when involving Moderators or MyADSL. Simple contact us and ask us if our names may be included. I am certain you guys understand our position. I must make it clear that I still see this website as one ‘owned’ by all its members, and we encourage the forums to be used for any purpose that is acceptable. This definitely includes Gooku’s proposed actions.

Please give your views on the matter as I would like to know how you guys feel about this and what the best way will be to deal with these matters in future.

Dear RPM and my fellow MyADSL members

I am aware of the message sent by Gooku and it was strange to me as well. But I think the sentiment from which the message was born is the right sentiment. We as consumers need to get more organized and unleash a flood of opposition to bad and overpriced service of any kind.

I agree that this message would have been better placed had it been put on the forum itself instead of via email. This is a minor error in judgment and Gooku should not be treated too harshly for this incident. Let us put it behind us now.

To return to the issue at hand, that of the process of engaging the powers that be to give us better service at better prices. I believe we need to organize a rally of some sorts. A rally where hundreds (preferably thousands) of us picket at a strategic venue against Telkom.

I am behind any such effort!

Telkom, if you are reading this, keep in mind that I am not at war against you but against your (and others) unfair practices which is hampering South Africa’s growth! Thus I am fighting an ideology which has taken foot in SA. One where businesses see it as acceptable to overcharge and under service South Africans just because they can!

Let us get ready for some action!

Well, to counter this, I oppose any such effort. I do not think there is anything wrong with Telkom taking advantage of the very beneficial situation they are in; namely, being a monopoly. All of this energy should instead be directed at the government, ICASA, etc. They are the people responsible for the situation, not Telkom.
