Neotel is digging up the front lawns of people in Bloubergstrand.
I saw that they're digging up in front of every house, seperately
not one long tunnel but a gutter from the road to each house.
They have their Neotel at Work sign.

Is that supposed to be fibre/cable to each house, as I don't
see that these cables are necessary for each home if
they plan to start with wireless.

Any comments? :)

Bloubergstrand you say - maybe they are getting fibre from the home direct to the SAT-3 landing point.

Nice :D

A guy buzzed my intercom this morning, saying he was the contractor to NeoTel, and that they would be digging along the verges and the drive way. Went outside earlier on, and they were going ape with their picks digging a trench.

PS, I'm in Bryanston, Joburg

They usually start digging between the drive ways and then run piping under the driveway - saves them time from having to repave the driveway after its finished. I wouldn't get excited fibre-to-home in SA is a pipedream for now

lol where exactly is the sat-3 termination point?
Wonder when they will start in edgemead, if they even will

Maybe it's just that but the trenches they dug were 30cm wide and ?50cm deep and ran perpendicularly from the street towards each house, I saw them busy on 4-5 at the same time, with the driveways not close.

It seems a strange place to lay fibre unless they are going to put a
tower up somewhere in Extension 1. Its a residential 3 street section
of Bloubergstrand (Ext 1), there is no connection anywhere here
unless its to individual homes. Weird.

Could have asked a foreman if I saw one, I just saw the workers with no-one directing them when we drove past.

I'd take some pics but I'm off recovering from an accident at the moment, only get out of the house to see Dr/Physio.

Well, had my first drive-by sighting of the "Neotel at work" signs - coming out of Pinelands, just past the Old Mutual buildings approaching the turn-off to Epping.

All for the enterprise clients it still seems...

Now that sounds promising. Clearly something is going to each house and its unlikely to be copper...so fibre is the next best bet.

When I went to check out the two boats Weskus I, Seawin Sapphire that was stranded on the beach. I noticed that all the bin covers was replaced by Neotel covers. All the way from Blaauwberg to Melkbos strand.

I drove by there this morning as well - saw the boat, not the covers... :(

In kloof (Durban) they are digging up the pavement / verge of very residential roads, and lots of them. Definitely a long way from any business and far too extensive for tower "backhaul". I am quietly optimistic, that give neotel a year or two they may spring some surprises.

About 5mths ago i saw people digging started at the bottom of area all the way back, they placed a wooden like stick in the ground...and no it couldnt be water or power. .
