Inaction from the police is making these savages more brazen.

If only the home owner had taken the advice offered so freely here and moved to a safer seaside retreat. :cool:

Now burglars are kicking down front doors

Burglars in the Cape Town area and the Atlantic seaboard are disregarding alarm systems and are kicking down doors to get to the goods.

At least three such cases have been reported in Camps Bay and one in the city centre in a month.

On Tuesday police spokesperson Randall Stoffels said robbers had gained entry into a Higgovale home last month by breaking through the front door.

Happened to me 2-3 months ago , except they used a crowbar to get the door open , even though you can see the alarm was active from the outside the still 'Reggies toy rush' my house , they took laptop a pc box + 2 flat screen , a microwave and some jewelry. All this was done under 5min before ADT arrived :mad:
 
ja, nowadays you need the strongest outside door your can find with good security doors in front of those. And don't forget the household goods insurance and to keep the list of good up to date.

And backup your data and keep it somewhere hidden away, like the plastics goods cupboard in the kitchen (for the PCs).

It seems response times must be dropping. It may be time I tested my alarm and response time. Why else would they be confident enought to get in, do their stuff and get out before the armed response arrives?

I've done that, and the response time was 11 minutes - when I complained to the the company they retaliated complaining that I was wasting their time and could have placed others at risk etc.
They insist that I schedule ALL testing with them ahead of the time - I had great difficulty explaining that it would defeat the object.

Just get a maxidor with slam lock They'll be mucking about with an angle grinder before they even reach the front door.

My dad shocked himself maybe 2 dozen times with 220V, each time it was uncomfortable but it didn't injure him.

He also shocked himself while trimming hedges on an neighbour's electric
fence a few times and in his opinion that was a joke.

I guess an inner Trellidoor or door is the answer, one past the alarm system activator,
so that the 5 minute countdown is already on, breaking through that should hopefully
take too long.

They use car jacks to break through trellidoors. Happened to us.

How long does that take?

You have your alarm triggered by the front door breakdown, right?

Then there is a inner trellidoor, just after or maybe a few meters down.

To jack the door should take them a few minutes, and they need to know
beforehand that it is there, right? All the time the siren is blaring, the
security co has been alerted.

I have a question, how common are break in's through the roof, by taking
off the tiles and deactivating the alarm system???

Yeah I've also wondered about this. My alarm radio is in the ceiling. All they have to do is disable it and climb thru the trap door. Which I've since locked. Still maybe it's time to mount the radio inside. Damn, seems you gotta look for loopholes all the time.

My security gate is in front of my door, and I had the same thoughts as you and added detection to the security gate, so once this was compromised the alarm would sound and alert the security company while they still had to get past the standard wooden front door.
This way we can open the front door and still have the security gate between us and the villain.

In PE roof break-ins became that frequent that our security company developed a special detector for installation in the roof - it's similar to the infra red detectors.
The trap door is also fitted with a detector - this is standard.

My radio was installed in the same cupboard as the system box inside the house.
 
Do you recall what happened when car security really developed and most often installed at the factory - anti-hijack protection etc.

The savages resorted to violent means of acquiring what they want - so lets hope this does not go the same way with us securing our homes.

Lets hope we don't get the 'move to a safe lala land' immature comments.
