Would like to hear how Jhb/GP users of my wireless are doing. How are your connections, speeds, etc.

downloading from ftp.za.freebsd.org wich is is
I get a constant 8kb/s but I think teure site is capped,
as I download constant 14kb/s from ftp.freebsd.org wich is international. I'm on a 128k.

My reasoning for my constant good speeds is that the connection is 512kb. But they are capping me at 128k. So if the connection could be able to give me a 24kb/s constant download rate or something like that, I'll still get close to 15. So I'm getting good value for money.

my ping to is.co.za is average 100ms.
some packet loss, but I havent taken time to get a good average on this.

Connection drops for me is very little, but I cant say for sure as I have more power drops than anything else.

Ooh... and I'm in pretoria.

Indeed, Internet Solutions throttles FTP download speeds from their servers for non-IS clients to around 8kB/s as is their good right to limit "free access".

I am very satisfied with general web surfing and downloading, i am only on the 128kb package. Pings are high if your signal is below 40% but it dosen't affect your download speeds at all. I have had no problems with disconnecting, i stay connected for 3-4 days at a time before i reboot my pc. If you main purpose is surfing/mail/downloads i would deffinately recommend it. If you are playing FPS games and need really good pings, sorry mate it's not for you.

would it be possible for you to let me see (using your modem) if I can get online at my flat (in Pretoria). I wont use more then 5 minutes of your time. Basically, just bring the modem+cd one night (the benefits of portability [] ) and plug it in at my pc then see if you get online. If it works then I will get myWireless. I will pay for the petrol etc if its a problem.

Sliver, your signal strenght is directly proportional to your ping times, thus, anything above 45% your ping times would be approx 60ms (read ProAsm's post)

I'm on 512k, and can pull about 60-80 meg in about 30 minutes. Avg about 66kb/s

Plus, my browsing doesn't seem to be affected much with my downloading, thus, i looooove my wittle broadband thinga-magik [)]

Would you say that MyWireless is a viable alternative to ADSL.
Im just concerned about ping times to local game servers like Karoo.
