Pietermaritzburg - A crèche owner who accidentally drove over a group of babies, killing one, has been hospitalised, the Msunduzi Municipality said on Friday.
Spokesperson Evodia Mahlangu said the city was meant to inspect the woman's day-care centre but it was postponed "because the crèche owner was re-admitted to hospital".
She said the inspection would start once the woman was discharged from hospital.
"The crèche is presently non-operational," said Mahlangu.
On Tuesday, while trying to reverse, the woman accidentally accelerated and drove into 10 children.
Nine-month-old Sayoona Moonsamy died and the others were treated in hospital - most for minor injuries or shock.
Police later revealed that the woman did not have a driver's licence while Mahlangu confirmed that her crèche was also not registered with the municipality.
Police spokesperson Inspector Joey Jeevan at the time said: "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and, on completion of the investigation, the matter will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for a decision."
