Hey everyone;

I just wonder what the average lead time is between ordering and delivery of the modem. This thread is not to criticize but just to observe the trend. I just placed my order this morning and I thought I should ask how long it took everyone to get theirs. This might help potentials as well; who knows…

I am holding thumbs that my credit record is untarnished though coz boy did I have a rough patch. Anyway I am going off topic.

Just the important bits like...

Date Ordered : Friday 05th March 2004
Date Delivered:
Days Waiting :

This should obviously be completed by those who have it already.

Thanks.

Order : 20 Jan
Received : 10 Feb
Actual Connected Date : 19 Feb
Days waited : 20 business days (excl weekends mos)

Ordered : 1 Mar
Delivered : 5 Mar

(What actually happened was : Berco called lunchtime, Mom answers with "Missing - Presumed fed[:p]", Berco makes appointment for 8 Mar)

Activated : (hopefully) 8 Mar

Ordered 27 Feb, Berco phoned me Fri 5 Mar to tell me that my modem is ready and in Joburg, and should be delivered (I'm in Pta) on Monday (8 March). So that's 7 working days, inclusive on both ends.

Previously Sentech have told me on the phone that it takes 'up to ten working days'.

Date Ordered : WEdnesday 25th Feb 2004
Date Delivered: Monday 1st March 2004

Date Ordered : 21 Jan 2004
Date Delivered: 16 Feb 2004

yes... it was very painfull to become a client... at least it looks like Sentech has got the process much smoother now!

yeah it really seams like Sentech have dramatically improved the ordering proccess which is very good to hear, because it tells up that they actually CARE ! and are dynamic about their business and not just their to offer "Take it or Leave it" products.

Go Sentech .... Score 1 for the home team :P

Me again.

I am still patiently waiting. I called Customer support to check the status of my application. I was told my contract has not been received yet. Strange since I remember faxing on Friday the 5th.

Anyway maybe I was doff and faxed the blank side instead of the printed side. So I faxed Again yesterday. I called this morning to confirm the fax.
Yes ! It was recieved, I am told to check again on Friday to give them time to 'load' the application.

I will wait patiently.

I faxed on Friday. Called to check on Saturday. Received=yes.

No 24 hour call yet [:(]

So who knows..

qDot, who far is the process? Any news..?

I'm waiting.. not patiently [8D]

Well I called in today at about 9:15. I spoke to Callie. He said to me that it is still with the "Finance people" for a credit check. I am holding by breath; creditwise 2003 was not a good year for me.

My problem is that I dont earn the R8000 a month (I can still comfortably afford 650 a month tho) but I hope that I can get approved, hopefully my credit record is ok which it should be..since I havent had any bad debts or anything at all actually. Did you ask to speak to Callie? Please post when you get any response from them, Im as eager as you to get online [8D]

Bummer;

7 RD's that I had on my cheque account in Feb failed my credit check.

oh, the angst !

I ordered mine on 8 March. Still patiently waiting for it..
Apparently it was through the credit check at least 3 days ago, and awaiting delivery. The R500 has gone off my account too, but no modem yet. It seems that the delivery service is a bit slow, or perhaps they are out of modem stock.. They're almost at the 'up to 10 working days' I was told it would take.

It was the other way round.

The support guy suggested I wait for the 'unbundled packages'. I imagine the idea here is that I must purchase the modem on my own and then sign up for the contract.

I was declined for some reason. "why? - It doesnt say.." huh? I guess it automatically declined me for low income so they didnt even look at my application which states that I have the required income but its just not in my payslip.

They were also pushing the unbundled option on me and I said I dont want that. I will rather pay 2 months in advance for a 24 month contract. Here's why:
Bundled = R570 + 24 * 649 = R16146
Unbundled = R570+R3500 + 24 * R549 = R17246

Yes, the unbundled option is only a 12 month contract but still, where is that other R1100 going?

Also, whats the point anyway - they will still decline me for the unbundled since it is ALSO a contract and in fact costs MORE. I'd be happy with a normal 24 month contract and will pay every month in advance and wont miss a payment. I really dont know what their problem is. If you stop paying then you owe them by law/contract and they take the modem back. Whats the big deal?

Its not like the *new* option is prepaid ie. Buy the modem for R3500(ripoff) then pay R549 every month with no contract.

But as they told me, I will find someone "suitable" and pay them to pay Sentech. I really want my modem and am tired of waiting already..

Greedy hang on until 1 April see if there are any specials on modems from NoWire, and see what their unbundled offerings are.

Otherwise, maybe u and I can pool resources and organise a couple of cheap modems from one of the overseas IPWireless companies...I have a mate going to NZ at the end of the month, maybe he can send back a Woosh modem or 2 [;)]

They did it to you too ?

I called them again this morning and it turns out it was not the fact that my creadit record is bad. It was because My salary isn't high enough. He (JP or something to tha effect) could not tell me what "enough" was.

[:(!]Now If they think I cannot afford R649 per month on the 2 year contract; what makes them think I can afford R550 per month on the 1 year contract? Their criterion does not make any sense.

My guess is that they are running out of modems and this is a means for them to ration the modems they have. As in "give to the highers <s>bidder</s> earner. If this is the case then this was a bad move.

This reminds me of our cellular network operators. When they started here they were looking for high income earners. But today the majory of their income is derived from Pay As You Breathe low income earners.

[V] bad.

The irony is that I probably facilitates at least 2 contracts here at work since I was going on and on about this great new broadband product.
