Hey guys

I'm sure this has been posted before, but where, in Cape Town, is the best place to get official football shirts?

I had a look at Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday and I see the new Arsenal, Man U & Chelsea shirts. They were about R600. The same shirt from the Arsenal.com website is £40 which when converted to rands is about R600. So it seems pretty expensive.

I'm thinking I must give Cross Trainer & Lillywhites @ the V&A a try. They'll be expensive though I'm sure.

Any other places?

Thanks. :)

Places you should goto would be Nike concept store in Canal Walk or Waterfront. Total Sports sells them as well. They go for around R600.

I haven't seen the away shirt in stores here, yet. It is really nice. Kitbag (http://www.kitbag.com/stores/kitbag_4_5/football/product_browse.aspx?cid=7830) has the names and numbers on the back. £44.20 for a Fabregas shirt. £51.15 including delivery (standard). I wonder how reliable it is getting that shipped here? I assume pricing is the same for the others. :)

Remember to add 40% duties then add 14% vat onto that price. It works out to be pretty expensive after that. Best way to get it is if u know someone in the UK that is coming back home or there on holiday to buy you one.

There is no store in South Africa that prints official names on the shirt. One would need to order from the UK to get one.

The problem isnt ordering from online. The problem is the duties SA customs hit you with. Almost 60%.

That is flipping expensive then.

Not trying to argue, but where do you get that 40% figure from? And why must 14% VAT still be added on here if the purchase was made overseas?

Fern9do

I think its only the tax. I did some research and theres a free trade union type thing between the uk and sa which came into affect this year. So you only pay the 14% tax.

Few years ago SA textile industry took a major hit cos of all the cheap imports coming from China.

So the SA government put a 40 tax tarrif on all textiles entering the country. (40% on clothing and 30% on shoes). To protect the local industry.

I have been ordering shirts online for a long time. So i know what im talking about. Goto the SARS website if u want further proof that im not talking thry my ass :D

Dude, trust me. I just ordered a shirt - got it begining this year. It will stay 40% for a very long time still.

Code:
As of September 1, 2002, the following rates, which are also the end rates, apply:

Apparel 40 percent (shirts would fall under here)
Yarns 15 percent
Finished goods 30 percent

If u still dont trust, me go ahead and order your shirt. Report back here when they charge u through ur ass :D

Begining of the year was 7 months ago.

There cannot be something as FREE TRADE that covers all industries. What industry? It cannot cover all industries.

Anyways, there is a tarrif for textiles - 40% as i posted and u can add another 14% vat on that. So it works out pretty expensive.

But the shirt looks so much sweeter with a name at the back.

I wouldn't know. I ordered but they don't have the Liverpool shirt in my size. I've seen hundreds of these online stores and imo this one look very genuine.
Prices are the cheapest I could find and they are based in cape town so no import tax and duties.
If they had the pool shirt in my size I would have bought one two months ago already.
Funny thing is I tried most other club's shirts and they have them in stock:(

Well it depends from were you order. I order all my teams stuff from their official store.http://store.inter.it/

Never pay a cent in customs fees. Inter always under declares the value of the shirt. On my official receipt that I get in my email I get the real value of 90 euros but on the letter that ups and customs gets there's a nice price of 9 euros.

I never even asked them to do it they just do it. Don't know if the english clubs follow the same policy.

No you are mistaken. If you order clothing from anywhere in the world they will charge you 40%. I know this! I had so many dealings with customs, i know the story back to front. I studied International tarrifs and law for a semester at Varsity.

90 Euros for a shirt is flippen expensive! I see the Inter one works out 69 Euros minus the printing. Maybe ur customs is worked into that. I buy all my shirts from the official store and they go for 59.99 Euros.

You must be reading your payment breakdown wrong

OR

The only way and i mean the only way to get a shirt here and not pay anything is if the supplier sends it to you as a gift.

Love the Inter shirt by the way.

Unless customs are included in the 30 euros I pay for ups shipping to SA. On my invoice there's only the personalised shirt( I got ibrahimovic for this season) and a shipping fee. No customs fee unless its included in the shipping fee.

But I doubt it since I pay and then they ship so they wouldn't be able to know what customs will charge this time round before the package actually lands in SA.

Our customs isn't worked into the price of the shirt since you pay the same price whether you order from milano or pretoria. Also its impossible for it to be part of the shipping fee unless UPS is only charging 1 euro since 40% of the shirt's value would be something like 29 euros.

When I ordered from the US ups would call me when I needed to pay customs fee.

With all my inter stuff ups/fedex have never called me asking to pay customs fee. On the ups/fedex form the value of the shirt is always listed lower than my official invoice.

For the record I did two modules of international business covering tarifs and customs at pre grad and honors level. So I am well versed in the way its suppose to work.

Genius.
04-08-2008, 11:50 AM
If you did those modules then you would know that the price you are paying for your shirt (no customs) is very very odd. Customs cannot work their cost into UPS shipping.

As i said, maybe the store sends it as a gift. That is the only way.

Perhaps but I never seen any such indications but that could be the case and it would probably work since I only receive about two packages from overseas per year.

I'm thinking about usnig the official store.

So what is the actual process?

1. Order shirt for X amount(including shipping)

2. Pay customs y amount

3. Get Shirt

Total cost = x amount + y amount

Is my logic correct? Or are there still other costs involved?

Genius.
04-08-2008, 04:48 PM
What u might find is that the shirt will come from Kitbag. Kitbag is the official store for ''most'' clubs in Europe. What happens sometimes is if u order from the official Madrid store, they will have kitbag send it.

Ya, ur logic is correct.

Order shirt online - add to trolley
Pay with credit card - pay for shirt + delivery
....

and wait for UPS to come and drop it off. They will call before they come. You would have to pay customs when the UPS guy drops it off.

Fern9do
04-08-2008, 04:49 PM
The total cost comes to 78 pounds(including shipping). Long sleeved shirt, with torres on the back and premiership patches.

Between 5 and 7 days. That's taking into account it usually sits in Joburg for two days.

UPS have never called me when ordering any Inter stuff. I usually just use the online web tracking of my package.

Inter doesn't use kitbag they make use of EPL Merchandising.

Yeah. I pre ordered this seasons Inter home yerseys they launched it on the Friday but started shipping on Thursday for pre orders. According to the ups tracking my shirt was at Joburg on the saterday but as we know delivery guys don't do home deliveries on saterdays and sundays so I only got the shirt on Monday morning. But From Milano to Joburg it took two days.

UPS are usually very quick. The previous time when it wasn't an pre order it took 7 days.
