Hi

My mum just got a new Toshiba laptop from Dion Wired Today , the l300 model.

Well it came with Vista Business and i've always had problems with vista connecting to my Telkom Adsl 5102G router at home. since i'm leaving for boarding school on Monday and my mum doesnt want to de-grade to XP i really want to help sort the problem out

The laptop either connects and gets a limited connectivity or doesnt connect at all.

what should i do? Please help me or supply with me contact numbers for more help , i saw somewhere that it said to upgrade the firmware but i can find firmware and also i saw that we must reset the NIC or something to that effect.

Regards,
Dhiven

It could be a bad driver. Find out what wifi nic is has and download the Vista driver from the vendors site. I have had issues after doing WIndows update where I had the same problem, just reinstalled the correct driver. Also check if the Toshiba driver is managing the connection or if Windows Zero Configuration is doing it. If its the Toshiba app, then go into services and enable wireless zero configuration and rather let windows do the connection.

It's a bug in vista - or the 5102g's firmware - whoever you want to blame. See my 1st post. I bet my left whatsit that'll fix your problem.

for testing purposes :

-drop encryption totally
-use static ip's
-update firmware of 5102 by cable.
-play around with 802.11b also
