Pics of Hadron Collider

No idea what half of those things do, but VERY cool non-the-less! I wonder what the odds are of something going wrong? If that thing's up to speed, and something goes pop, I'm thinking there will be some serious damage to whatever surrounds it.

Weren't they worried at some stage that it might cause a black hole to swallow up the earth or something similar?

Cure for insanity? You can count on a few people losing their minds over this :p
Artificial Gravity? Possibly, or maybe just a better understanding of gravity.
Permanent Viagra? I'm sure some of the old crockety scientists have similar schemes in the back of their mind.
